<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">LOS ANGELES -- Ten years have come and gone since Timberwolves rookie Isaiah Rider grabbed a sliver of the NBA's national spotlight by winning the 1994 slam dunk contest at All-Star Weekend in Minneapolis.

Rider has come and gone, too. Only now, he apparently wants back in.

In what TNT publicists are billing as a "revealing, candid and emotional" interview, former Georgetown coach John Thompson sat down with Rider to talk about his travails and tribulations, not to mention his actual trials, in a turbulent NBA career. Rider, the Wolves' first-round pick in 1993, will turn 33 next month and is trying to land a roster spot in the league.</div>

Who will be dumb enough to give him another chance? He's too big of a risk, has proven to be a cancer on his teams, and while he has immense talent, the other intangibles are all detrimental to a team...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Rider: "I feel I didn't blow it. I feel I made mistakes [and] learned on the job. I wish a veteran had grabbed me early and just explained to me about professionalism, business and a NBA life, because I learned on the job my first couple of years and I paid for it heavily." </div>

Just from that quote itself, Rider still seems like the stubborn person he was before...He's still making excuses...He was talented, but I doubt he'll ever recieve another chance in the league...He already blew too many....

Believe it or not, I think Rider will still end up getting a chance somewhere. He was interviewed by John Thompson on TNT before the All-Star festivites(this is the same one I think), it was pretty convincing that he has cleaned up his act and still has something to prove. Yes, he has blown tons of oppourtunites, but IMO this guy still deserves a chance. A 10 day contract won't hurt, just to see what he can do.

I agree..a strugglin' team in need of a guard that can light it up wouldn't be risking much to give this cat a 10 day contract...if he does well give him another...and go from there....

Thats the beauty of 10 day contracts, If it works out you can always extend his contract for another week, if not, cut him loose.

Sad thing is, Rider could of easily been a future hall of hamer. He had that much talent.

yep that he did. This cat was a legit 5 tool type player comin' outta college.....I don't understand how he coulda let it all go..I mean you don't need someone to tell you habitually smokin' weed and bein' late or missin' practice gonna get you in trouble....especially after you done once or twice....

I dont see how he will ever get another legit shot at the league. The Nba has away of blackballing people to prove a point(see Micheal Ray Richardson). The David stern & league is never going to let JR Rider have another legit shot. The NBA uses a guy like JR to prove to the up & coming cats how you are not surpose to act. I think the pressure from the league will prevent any teams from signing Rider to even a ten day contract.

Some guys like Stanley Roberts and J.R. Rider just blow it (stop me if that hasn't been said a million times already). I really enjoyed watching Rider play, but just because someone interviews you doesn't mean you'll be in the league soon. Everyone thought Stanley Roberts would get a big NBA contract when Sports Illustrated printed an article about him last year, but he's nowhere to be found now.

The Raptors worked him out against Robert Archibald to see who would get a roster spot and Archibald beat him 15-0 in three games of 1 on 1 I heard.

Whatever Rider was at 23 he clearly won't be at 33, So why would anyone take a chance on a bitter, out of shape, weed smoking senior citizen, who has been given opportunity after opportunity. The GM that makes that deal would be signing his own death certificate...........Maybe Danny Angie or the Magic?s GM might, they don't seem to be to bright :sun:

Playing 1 on 1 for a roster spot? [IMG]

Actually, he mentioned that he still works out and practices on his game every day. I hope that's true, because I want him to get signed somewhere.

Well you can make a legitimate argument with a young and troubled player like Griffin. But an old player who has been given countless chances to straighten up? I don't think so.
