Yep, and he wasn't even activated for the playoffs. Picked up a cheap ring. If I remember he was suspended a few times that year for different reasons.

One game? Even if he is to get signed, I don't see one game deciding if he'll be released or not. It will take a few games just to get decent minutes and get back in the swing of things.

Isiah Rider was one of my favorite players, and I was so happy when the Lakers signed him. Too bad that didn't work out, but like he said himself he has no one to blame but himself. If I were a GM on teams like The Hawks, Magic, Celtics, Chicago or even Philly, I would be sure to give him a 10-day contract. We all know this guy can play, and if he can prove himself worthy in two 10-day contracts or even a summer league as suggested in the TNT interview, I'd keep him. Though he is going to turn 33 soon, we all know he could play two seasons ago, and he did still seem to be in good shape. Come on Philly we know you need some more guards who can play!!

Only my second post guys so be gentle!!! Far as rider goes, Its not so much about the attitude. More the belief in him as talent. A team like the magic giving him an opportunity sounds more than plausible, seeing as they gave KEMP a chance. In his time, no one would argue his aggresive play. But even after he was washed up, they still gave him the benefit of the doubt. But was Rider good enough initially to warrant such a risk?

It was the Steve Smith/Rider trade that took the Hawks from 2nd round playoff team to ... where they are now. I know the Hawks will regret that trade forever... and I bet most other teams would look at that before signing him. He definitely has the potential to ruin a franchise!

Steve Smith was going down hill, and fast when that trade was made. He had one more good season with Portland after that trade, but really fell off after that. The trade was made due to the contract Smith had, which was huge and was definitely much bigger than he was worth. Plus Rider was one of the best guards in the league at that time, and I guess a bad contract for a troubled but very talented player was worth it to them. Made sense to me.
