<div class="quote_poster">Quoting :</div><div class="quote_post">Chris Webber will be suspended at least six games by the NBA for lying to a federal grand jury, it was learned Saturday, a strong penalty that comes as a response to what one league official called "horrendous" actions by the Kings forward. The exact length of the discipline is not known, but an announcement could be made within days, as soon as Webber is activated after spending the first 50 games on the injured list while recovering from knee surgery.</div> Full Story http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/baske...p-9203679c.html
Dang It looks like Webber wont be back untill March or April. Oh well at least we will have him for the playoffs
Whoa six games, that's quite a lot. I wish he wasn't suspended, every game he plays will be what he needs to get back to playing normal. Either way, great to know he'll be back to help the load off of Divac and Miller as well as the rest of the Kings. For shame Webber....
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Magic Johnson:</div><div class="quote_post">Whoa six games, that's quite a lot.</div> Not really. He missed the first 50 games, what's six more? I heard it could be eight games. Chris Webber should be ashamed of himself. One, for lying, two for accepting all that stuff from a booster. With his kind of salary, anything he could possibly want is his. Shame, shame
They said on TNT tonight it will now be 8 games. Tough break for Webber considering he will be off the injured list tomorrow.
C'mon he has already missed 50 games and the kings still the best team in the league, six games aint notin'.
well i dont if he will play tommrow against boston but they activated him,so i cant wait to see him back in action,do you think the kings will improve or get worse
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting mydi619:</div><div class="quote_post">awww. geez what has webber done??</div> The Kings should use some strategy and activate Webber ASAP. Even if he isn't ready to play yet, he can serve the suspension while he gets ready, and he'll be missing games that he wouldn't have played in anyway.
That's good he'll be missing eight games. And yes, more time for him to sit on that bench, and struggle offensively on the court once he returns. And what about Brad Miller? I was on ESPNEWS yesterday morning and the topic listed "Brad Miller's New Boot", but they never covered the story. Anybody know his status?
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Laker_Fever_834:</div><div class="quote_post">And I've also heard Miller is out 1-2 weeks. </div> Wow, maybe the Kings should just move to LA.
Webber Suspended for 8 games <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Sacramento Kings forward Chris Webber was suspended without pay for eight games Tuesday: five for violating the NBA's drug policy and three for pleading guilty to lying to a grand jury. Webber has missed the entire season after left knee surgery and was taken off the injured list Monday. His suspension started with Tuesday night's home game against the Boston Celtics. Webber pleaded guilty last July to a charge of criminal contempt as part of a plea bargain. He had been charged with lying to a grand jury about his contact with Ed Martin, a University of Michigan booster who claimed he loaned $280,000 to Webber.</div> Just when the Kings activate Webber and Miller got injured in the ASG. Story
Exactly why is the league suspending Webber? I understand he lied to the grand jury but is that the sole basis of the charge?. ANd when did he lie about the money to play for michigan(that was the issue right?). ??? Oh well...I think the kings can still hold their own..
I think it is a fair punishment. he lied and broke the rules therefore he should be punished web is not above the law. if any of us lied to a grand jurry we would be in jail.
As far as I know the whole Grand Jury thing was from way back when he was in college or right after he entered the NBA. It was something about another Michigan player accepting a large sum money...which they arn't allowed to do. Webber was called in as a witness and was asked if he had ever seen or known that this other player recieved money or gifts...Webber testified that he hadn't. Somehow they found out that Webber lied. Or something like that. Im assuming contractually all NBA players are bound when it comes to illegal activity. If they're found guilty for whatever illegal act...the league can hand down their own punishment as well. Its just the NBA trying to save face for the bad publicity.
