The current CBA lasts through next season, but Hunter has told owners that he wants a new deal done by the start of training camps.

"If we don't, it's pretty difficult to negotiate during the season because the players generally are unavailable," Hunter said last night, appearing with David Stern during the commissioner's annual State of the NBA address.</div>

After the lockout in '99 the on court basketball play was really bad. And it never really ever to this date has gotten back to the way it was in 1998 & before. So I hope that there isnt another lockout. The NBA is losing their true mature old school fan base every year. And all a lockout would do is drive them away even faster. The Nba needs to solve their problems with the player union during the off season. And not let it linger into the regular season cause I dont think the NBA can take the hit of another in season lockout.

Lockouts are horrible. They help ruin the game. I hope it doesn't happen, the NBA needs to settle any problems with the union.

I hope the players' union learned from the '99 disaster that there's a reason why owners are called "owners".
