<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">With Thursday's trade deadline bearing down, Warriors management finds itself with decisions to make. In the next few days, through their action or inaction, it will become apparent what direction the Warriors are heading. There are three distinct choices for the Warriors (23-28), who find themselves on the periphery of playoff contention. They can sit tight, try to make a trade to acquire a player or try to make a move that will yield immediate cap room. There is no obvious choice. Each of those avenues has advantages and drawbacks...</div> Full Article =================== Some good points made. Go and read the rest of the article.
I read the article, and I feel option 1 is the best. I'd rather wait till next season to get the cap room. Most likely the Warriors are out of the playoffs this. Some people want the cap room now but, I feel that this team is better than what their record is mainly because of Nick Van Excel having injury problems this season. If he were healthy the Warriors would be a couple games over five hundred. I'm willing to give this team another shot next season with everyone healthy. The only downside is if Damp opts out.
I personally like option #2. My biggest problem with option 1 is Dampier opting out with no compensation. If NVE opts out, not a huge deal. With option #2, we have the ability to get a player/s that could help this team in the long run. Since it will take an incredible 2nd half of the season to make the playoffs, it will give this team time to get healthy and gel together. Maybe next year could be our year to final break through that barrier and get into the playoffs...assuming we are actually able to remain healthy.
That makes sense, but what players are on the trading the block, that the warriors could get without having to pick a massive contract for a player thats good but not an all star? I just don't think that any teams are going to do that. If we did that it would be like we just got another Jamison. I thought that was the reason that the warriors traded him, because of his contract. I'm also worried about Damp opting out, but I just don't think the warriors can make a trade that will make sense for both parties.
Yes, that is the tough thing about it. But if there is a player/s out there that can help this team that doesn't have a huge contract, I would say try and get them. I would just love to see this team have a set roster without the fear of Dampier opting out and trying to replace him in the off season. It would give this team a chance to gel together for the rest of this season. Of coarse, this is the ideal situation and might possibly not even be possible.
How about Antoine Walker? I know the Mavs are looking to move him, they need a big man, Dampier can score and rebound very well, and is also a solid defender. Toine may shoot a lot, but that's what the Warriors need, a guy who can step up down the stretch of games and hit key baskets, he could fill that role well. They could even add Van Exel in the deal, since he wants to end back up in Texas anyways. Just a thought, what do you guys think?
I don't really like Toine's game... a power forward that jacks up threes isn't really what the Warriors need. Also, it seems to me that he'd be the type of guy to complain on a bad team. A couple of names that came up when I thought about trades were Gordon Giricek and Juwan Howard. How do you guys feel about these two? I know the Magic would like to get a low post presence like Damp.
Juwan is done but he's got a couple of years left in his contract. Please no. Giricek is a pretty good shooter who has been hurt some this year. He's not bad but there's got to be something better out there than him for a 6'11 center having a career year.
I would obviously like to be rid of both Damp's and NVE's contract this summer so we could pursue Kobe. If that did not work out we could sign a couple of decent FA like Denver did and save for the next big FA next summer. Antoine Walker is just like Jamison, but worse. I would rather have Jamison back. Someone mention Giricek and someone else. I do not know much about him, but all I know is we have enough guards/forwards. I would not mind Juwan if he did not have such a long contract.

As for obtaining Walker, I wouldn't really be for it. That guy lives and dies by the 3 ball and that is not what the Warriors need IMO.

I'd rather just keep the team basically the same until next year, since we are not as bad as last years denver nuggets. Keeping the team basically the same doesn't sound like a good idea since thats what the warriors have tried to do in recent, but with no success, but I still think that is the best way to go.

If they can put together a good run to finish the season. Damp can either resign or not opt out. NVE gets healthy, and all of the current players learn how to play better and together, this team could be better next year than they are this year. To think about it. It is very unrealistic to cram a bunch of players together and expect them to succeed throught the first 40-50 games. I think if they are not performing by next All Star break, then by all means, blow up the team.
Give Murphy and Pietrus time. Really. If Van Exel wants to leave and somebody wants him, let him go somewhere and get something in return. Dampier? We can either get a good young player back or get cap relief. The reality is the Warriors are not going to catch the Lakers/Kings/Mavs/T'Wolves any time soon. But at least they are going up rather than sinking like the Sixers/Clippers/Suns or even the old Warriors.
If Damp is complaining about money then I don't care really if he opts out because he sure owes his fans back for playing like a dummy the past couple of years. If warriors are doing well lately, such as the last 5 games minus the really badly coached 4th quarter game, don't just trade him because you think he is going to opt out. If this season turns out well, he will stay if he leaves, more cap room. But one thing is for sure, if we trade him, the warriors will have no rebounding whatsover this season possibly surpassing the suns as the worst team in the Western Conference. Then if we go to the draft will we be guaranteed franchise big men players that can hit the ground running? No. Big men take forever to teach a low post game to.
