no, the nba wouldn't credit that with an assist.. i could've sworn you can't start dribbling and have something count as an assist.. cause that happens all the time.. someone starts to dribble and the pg or whoever loses the assist.. they even say it in some games when people are going for a triple double..

I'm 100% positive no doubt in my mind that they credit ppl with assist even if the recipient takes a dribble as long as the pass leads directly to a basket....
the player receiving the pass can dribble and the passer will get the assist as long as the shooter shoots off the dribble (or dunks i guess)... if he plants his feet, pumps, pivots or anything like that there's no assist. at least that's what my brother in law just told me. so it seems you are both right.
the nba needs to be *more* clear on their freaking rules! ;0 i want to know the exact definition now.
