What has been up with Welsch lately? Until recently besides Zach Randolph, IMO he was the MIP this season. But in his last five games he is averaging only 8.8 points p0er game on 14 of 43 shooting. He is also struggling from the free throw line where he is only 12 of 21. Hopefully he can break the slump against the Clippers tonight, in their last meeting he scored 20 points and shot .692 from the floor. And with Ricky playing well, it looks like he's going to be losing his starting spot.
After hardly playing last season as a rookie, this could be the infamous "rookie wall" he's going through now after finally getting consistent minutes with the Celtics...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Old Hoss:</div><div class="quote_post">Maybe he's been watching films of Paul Pierce. </div> Probably the way Pierce has been playing lately, but good poi9nt houstonhoopa. I forgot that he barely played last year and he's never played this long of a season
Someone hinted on it earlier, it's the infamous "Rookie Wall". Last season in Golden State Jiri only received 6 minutes a game, this season it's jumped dramatically to 26 minutes per game. I really like Jiri Welsch though, I believe he's a good pickup and if used correctly could be a solid role player. Sure, he won't steal Paul Pierce's job, but he could be a solid backup. The guy ranks 12th in the league in 3 point percentage, he's still only 24, and he has a tremendous upside. Remember, he hardly played last season, so essentially this is more like a "Rookie Season". Give Jiri time to get another season or so under his belt, I'm sure with some more expierence of the American game he'll be a great addition to this ball club.
