<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The word was that Warriors forward Mike Dunleavy would start for the first time since he sprained his left ankle Jan. 30. But not only did Dunleavy not start, he didn't play Wednesday against the Los Angeles Lakers at the Oakland Coliseum Arena.

And, according to a team spokesman, Dunleavy will miss the next two games as well.

``In practice Tuesday, it didn't feel like it was getting better,'' Dunleavy said. ``I went to the trainer and he said to get it checked further.''

A visit to ankle specialist Dr. Keith Donnatto in San Francisco confirmed more inflammation in the ankle, and the decision was reached to shut down Dunleavy for three more games. The Warriors had been encouraged by Dunleavy's 10-minute performance Saturday as a member of the NBA sophomores in their victory over the rookies in an All-Star weekend exhibition.</div>

    Playoffs a stretch for Warriors

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Back in the day, going to the playoffs seemed like a birthright for the Warriors.

That was then. This is now. As the Warriors begin the post-All-Star portion of their season by playing host tonight to the madcap menagerie that is the Los Angeles Lakers, the playoffs appear as unattainable as they've been the past nine seasons.

For those not born the last time the Warriors advanced, the playoffs are a postseason tournament that features 16 of the 29 NBA teams. Ending in 1994, the Warriors were one of those 16 teams five out of eight seasons.

Yes he did. I think it was selfishness because he was not on the rookie team last year. What a punk.

What a dummy, he sure fit right in since nobody played any defense in that rookie-sophmore game.

That's stupid to me. How the hell can he play in the rookie-sophomore game, which means NOTHING, and then sit out the next couple of games because of injury? This pisses me off as a Warriors fan.

The Washington fans are thinking the same of Jarvis Hayes. Although, I doubt they need him as much with Stack returning.

    Yes exactly [IMG]

I think Dunleavy might have exacerbated his injury during the rookie-soph game. It's the swelling and inflammation that kills you.

Yea. Hayes injury could have happened to anyone so I don't blame the guy for going out and playing ball. What frustrates me about the Dunleavy injury is that he was already hurt yet still decided to participate in the event. Not a smart move.

I think he should be disciplined in some way by management for such an irresponsible move.

I agree. How can you play in a meaningless game and not play for your own team? That is selfish. He should be benched for that.

Dunleavy is at fault but how about the Warriors coaching staff. Why would you allow this kid to play knowing he has missed some games with that tender ankle. I don't know how much of a say they could of had, but I wish they would have stepped up and said something.

I thought people ragged on players who were wimpy and sat. Dunleavy went out there and played to represent the Warriors. If he got hurt, that's just a tough break. Its not like he was playing pickup ball. The league requested he play and he probably felt it was not a problem. Think about his motivation. It was hardly selfish.

It is a great honor. But knowing that his ankle was still hurt, why take the chance on it. It is pretty much like a pick up game so why take that risk? He is young so I really don't fault him for this but he should have seen the big picture.

Yeah people rag on players who don't play through injuries... for their OWN team, when it actually MATTERS (like an actual NBA game, not an exhibition rookie-soph game). And it's not like he got injured in that game (which is excusable, because injuries are unpredictable), but he was already injured before playing. While it might not have been selfish, it's just not smart on his part.

Here is the deal. Dunleavy was already hurt. He should have used the break to do that, take a break. Instead, he slowed the healing process, and possibly re aggrivated the ankle because he played on it while it was still healing. I would not knock him if he was injured and played through it for a real game. But to disregard his own team by playing in the rookie vs soph game knowing that he would not fully heal in time for the Lakers game after the break is just plain disrespectful and selfish. The game is nothing. It is not like a real all star game. Maybe he was worried this would be the only time he would be involved in any all star activity since he SUCKS!
