What season in the NBA was the best in history? Which season had the most drama, excitement, best plays, etc. SLAM magazine stated that the 1988 season was the best.
A personal favorite is 92-93 when Phoenix made the Finals... awesome season as a Suns fan, 'cept for how it ended. But besides that I found 94-95 to be a great season... Phoenix won the Pacific, the Magic looked like the team of the future with Shaq and Penny, New York and Indiana put a great 7 game series, Houston came back down 3-1 to beat Phoenix not to mention winning the NBA Championship as a 6th seed, Grant Hill and Kidd won rookie of the year and Hill looked to be the next huge star (sad how that turned out), Jordan returned... but best of all HE LOST in the playoffs :biggrin2: -- except for the 1st round and Finals the playoffs were about as memorable as they come (for me at least)... that seems to stand out for me right now as a really good season. Of course I've only been watching the NBA since around 1990, so I don't have too many seasons to pick out of
For me the greatest season was the 1997-1998 season (MJ's last season with the bulls). It was the best only because going into the season everyone pretty much had a feel that it was going to be MJ's last.MJ &the Jerry's werent seeing eye to eye. So as a MJ fan you knew you had to save every last moment. And MJ gave us alot of moments to remember. It started at the all-star game at the garden, when a hot shot,2nd year player, who the entire NBA was calling him the next MJ, named Kobe seemed like he was trying to upstage MJ on the world's biggest stage. So MJ had to teach him why he was the greatest on earth. He gave kobe a workout on both baselines that kobe would never forget. And walk off with the All-star game MVP. And the next big MJ moment was another memorable MJ madison square garden moment. It was MJ last performance at the Garden in a bulls uniform. And he decided to breakout the original Air Jordan 1's. The garden was buzzing at its peak. And once again MJ made sure he was the star of the show. He dropped 42 on the Knicks including one play where he spinned off allan Houston. And drove the ball hard to the hole. And went up for a layup but Charles Oakley met him at the basket. And in Charles Oakley fashion, he took the hard foul on MJ. But that didnt stop MJ from making the basket. MJ just simply adjusted his body in mid-air, turned away from the basket, flip the ball over the back of his head to kiss it off the glass. AND1 And then in the 1998 playoffs,MJ and the bulls swept my Netsin the 1st round of the Playoffs. But I didnt mind as much because it was MJ. It ended up being the Pacers in Bulls in the Eastern Conference finals. And it was an extremely exciting 7 game series. At the end of game 6 Reggie Miller, hit one of his many clutch jumpers of his career to send the series to 7. MJ fans (me included) love to remember the push off of MJ. But like MJ always said you do anything to get an edge on your opponent. And Reggie did just that. MJ brushed the loss off came back in game 7, and led the bulls on to the NBA finals. The 1998 final were kinda crazy because the Bulls weren't favorites to win it by most people. But once again MJ had to prove why he was the greatest player of all-time. the bulls were down by three about half of a minute left in Game 6. Jordan got the ball at the top of the Key, MJ makes a strong move to the hole and MJ gets the easy layup. Bulls down by one. Stockton brings the ball up throws it into Utahs MVP Karl Malone. He tries to work in the post against Dennis Rodman. But MJ comes from the blind side. and get the strip. Bulls out of time outs, so MJ decides to bring the ball up himself. Byron Russell is left on an island one/one trying to guard the greatest in a game winning situation, a defenders nightmare. MJ hits him with a little crossover, and a good-bye pat on the butt (what push?),Russell ankles collapes. And then MJ rises Knock down the Jumper from the top of the Key. The ball goes thru nothing but the net, no rim or glass needed. And MJ holds his arm up in jumpshot form for an hour. Everybody in the Utah Jazz crowd takes a sit while MJ stands tall. And the legacy of MJ reaches its full peak. Stockton had a good look for the game winning shot but nobody cares to remember that. For most MJ fans the game ended with the world famous MJ jumpshot pose, everything after tha is a blur. That is why the 1997 -1998 season was my favorite, lots of MJ moments.
I have to say the season my two favorite teams @ the time were on the top of their conference: the 1995-6 Season. The Bulls 72-10 and the Sonics: 64-18 The Bulls was one of the best teams led by Michael Jordan (who else?) with a solid supporting cast The Sonics led by the dynamic duo of Payton and Kemp (I wanted them to win a title together) It was the first time i was rooting for a team against the bulls...
Bulls 72-10 (1995-1996) Kings almost beating the Lakers (2001-2002) 76ers/Bucks ECF (2000-2001) Pistons/Blazers (1987-1988)
The most memorable season to me was the 1995-96 season because it was the first season I started to follow the NBA. Back then, KG, Stack, Sheed, and Dice were still rooks and Stackhouse was this cat who noone could stop. He played like no other rookie played before, but I think his career went on down somewhat after the fight with Hornacek (saw it!) although his numbers went on up. And, I think every season bests the previous because of the new drama it brings.
