I'm hearing too much sympathy for the plight of Teflon Dave these days from the morons in the media. Too many people are saying, "Poor Dave, how can any coach win with all the things that have happened to his team?" Let's get this straight. Teflon Dave is the responsible for the for the position that Dolphins find themselves in and, at the end of the season, he must go. Teflon Dave is the reason that the Dolphins don't have a starting quality QB. He has insisted for four long seasons that Jay Fiedler is the Dolphins' best option to win. Jay Fiedler! Jay Fiedler is a weak armed QB that makes horrible decisions in the clutch. Fiedler's QB rating in the 4th quarter is under 30! We're in year five of the Fiedler era and he can't out play A.J. Feeley, who has just joined the team. Even if you can be forgiven for thinking that Fiedler was starting quarterback material, despite the fact that he thirty year old journeyman, that no one else thought was starting quarterback material, you can't take five years to figure out that your QB can't make a play. "Teflon" Dave is responsible for the Dolphins poor running game. I realize that Dave probably has a running backs coach and an offensive line coach, but Dave is ultimately responsible for making sure that the Dolphins have a plan for running the football. I'm sure that Teflon Dave was aware that Ricky Williams had a history of pot use when they traded for him, so Dave had to make sure that the running game could continue should Ricky not be ready to go due to injury or poor personal decisions. Take a good look at the Dolphins offensive line. Does it look like they're being coached? Does it look like the Dolphins' young lineman are growing as players from week to week? Dave, a head coach can't always count on out-talenting their opposition. Sometimes you actually have to coach your young players and help them to reach their potential. "Teflon" Dave Wannstedt is an NFL coach without a plan. The Dolphins are actually risking a winless season because they find themselves facing adversity and their leader is as perpetuously perplexed as ever. Wannstedt is breaking the number one rule of NFL coaching: Never let them see you sweat. Right now, the Jay and Dave show is playing like a bad episode of "Pinky and the Brain." Hopefully, when January rolls around, Wayne H. will pry his head from his hiney and hire a "professional" football coach. A man with a plan. The Dolphins don't have one right now.
Don't forget getting rid of a bunch of OL guys. The RBs have to be decent to make it back to the line of scrimmage this year. You should have traded for Bettis or Duckett... at least they could plow their way to a couple of yards. Your winless season comment makes me think that your organization is always thinking ahead. Worried that the Pats might equal your undefeated season, you are already looking to be the first franchise to have both undefeated AND winless seasons. Way to stay a step ahead! Lets see the Pats do that!!!
I'm not sure that we need to get rid of our OL guys. They might be able to play if they had coaching. We need to get a coach and find out.
We are on the same page. I meant more that you can easily overestimate players when you overestimate your own coaching ability to get them to perform well.
I love the Pinky & the Brain comparison. Its so appropriate. Yoy could even compare Jay & Dave to Beavis & Butthead i.e two Naively nihilistic pin heads who would love to wallow in mediocrity if only it did not require so much effort. Terrell Buckley recently said that Wanny & Chris Spielman are the reason the Dolphins are floundering. I did not realize CS was w/ Dave in Chicago. LG & RT, I understand, are the only positions anywhere near decent on the OL. Leonard Henry, according to the Box Score, did okay. Though, Konrad returned and the running game improved; coincedence? I am sure Lamar Gordon would have done ok had he not gone down w/ an injury. There is decent talent WR & QB. Even AJ was slowly coming along. At least, he doesn't fumble. I can guarantee Jay's INT that was run back was on a 15 yd out pattern which everyone but he & Dave knows he can't make. Until Dave goes, there is no hope. With Eddie Jones retiring and new Team president coming on there may be some house cleaning but can we afford to wait?
