    Strickland a Raptor?

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Strickland remains a possibility to fill in at point guard for the injury-ravaged Raptors, who are missing Jalen Rose and Alvin Williams, their two best distributors.

While Milt Palacio has been serviceable as a starter, the backup role is a black hole right now, filled by marginal NBAers Jannero Pargo and Roger Mason Jr. Strickland, 37, in his 17th NBA season, would immediately become a backup and probably a starter for Toronto.

The Raptors were interested in him a year ago, although former coach Lenny Wilkens was less than enthused. There can be no doubt new coach Kevin O'Neill would love to have Strickland on his roster for veteran presence.

Strickland told friends in Orlando on Monday that he'd wind up in Toronto. "It's not done at all," said one Raptors source, putting a 50-50 label on a deal.

Strickland asked for and got his release from the Magic late Monday night. The only way for the Raptors to obtain him would be if he clears waivers, which won't be until tomorrow morning, and they sign him until the end of the season, the same way they obtained Dion Glover last weekend.</div>

yeah that would be cool. but i think we need a big man first...then a point guard.

waive archibald and get a GOOD big man. then waive parrago and get strickland.

i believe it was the toronto star that said a close source to strickland knows that strickland has been telling friends in orlando he is going to toronto.

A veteran pg would help the Raps alot when they are missing Alvin and Jalen.Rod is still a good player.I hope Rod signs with the Raps but other teams will try to sign him too.Since they can't sign Baker yet, they should sign Rod first.

Waive Pargo, Bradley, and Arch...sign Strickland and Baker. That could make us a top 3 team in the East...assuming that Baker doesn't mess up the locker room.

I wish we had done this earlier so we could have him for the playoffs, and also waive Milt, stupid little Milt. One of the downfalls of Cleveland last season, Milt starting at PG. [IMG]

exactly...strickland AND baker makes for a dressing room cancer, i dont think i want either one of them

MAAAYBE give strickland a chance, but the last 3 teams that have signed him, all signed him under the same circumstances, and he ended up not helping at all. cant say id be excited to see rod as a raptor

well id rather have Rod than Jalen....Jalen is a cancer on the court in a big big big way....I love Jalen since he was in college but he's so bad sometime with his shots that the other team doesnt even need to throw a defender on him.

No think of how badly other teams slack away from Palacio who can't make a shot if his life depended on it [IMG]

No way, Milt is decent. He's like the only bench player that can drive the ball especially on fast breaks. His shooting is decent too, i think he is one of our best bench players

When Milt is one of your best players, you know your bench is pretty bad. Milt hurts us because of his lack of shooting ability, I saw about everytime down the court, Milts man would slack off and double Carter, Donyell or Bosh.

Also about 10 times Carter drove and dished the ball to Milt so he could shoot it, but Milt just swung the ball to a less open man b/c he knows he can't make it.

Well milt is certainly better than Pargo. Pargo is pretty greedy with the ball and can't even shoot, plus keeps shooting, like he's Lamond Murray. Still though, im sick of getting like a million no name point guards and not having any real big men. Seriously, every year we always need a point guard for some reason, you can see that its the lack of our size that's making us lose, every team looks bigger than the raps, and their outrebounding kills us. Even if we get strickland, we're gonna lose cuz we're small, we can't keep battling players like this with like a million point guards.

Yet we never draft one, I don't know why we drafted 3 big men this year, we should have drafted or traded for a less high profile PG. Marquis Daniels (cough cough)

    Maybe even Jiri Welsch.

I don't mind Strickland coming here for the rest of the season. He brings a pass first mentality to the point guard spot, which is something the Raptors are seriously lacking (along with a big man).

To me, Rod is welcome ANY freakin TIME! Wait, my friend told me we signed him already tho.

I'd love to have him in Raps jersey. We need a strong, veteran like that on the floor. Like everyone says, he's got that pass-first mentality. But he's also very athletic and quick, we need that athleticism real bad right now... someone who's not afraid to drive, cut in and attack the basket and face the big guys.

I don't think Strickland is as atheltic as he was in his younger days. Calling him strong is kind of stretching it too.

    its official

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Raptors hope an old, steady hand can help them salvage the rest of the NBA season.

Ending a couple of days of speculation, the Raptors signed veteran point guard Rod Strickland to the roster today and the 37-year-old should be in a Toronto uniform tonight to face the New York Knicks.

Strickland, who was waived by the Orlando Magic was expected to take his physical today before signing a contract for the rest of the season.

"He's a good, veteran player," Raptors general manager Glen Grunwald said. "We've got some good, young players, but we need some experience."</div>
