Radke is a formidable pitcher. He won't pitch a shutout, but the Yankees have no one to match up against Radke now. I don't think NY will score more than 4 runs agains Radke tonight. Oh, and if the Twins to beat NY and play Boston, the series favors the Twins.</div> Why does it favor the twins? Last night was rough man I thought you guys were going to get it done....cus trust me I'd rather not see the yankees, but Mr. Clutch Matsui does it again....that guy is awesome.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (MysteryMan)</div><div class='quotemain'>How bout since this is a football forum we talk about football!!!!!!!!!!!??????????????</div> I like this idea, baseball playoff? I guess I should look at more then the nfl sights and stop skipping through the paper till I find the football section. If I was a fan and by the way the teams are playing I would have to say Boston to win it all. The only reason why I have seen them play is because that is what is on the tube when I am having a cold one. It is almost like a train crash, I have to watch.

We owned the Red Sox during the regular season. I am afraid of their pitching, though. But I am pretty sure we can get after them. Last night was very rough. I can't believe we sent Nathan out there for a 3rd inning. We should have won that game...it was ours for the taking.
I'm not sure 4-2 is owning someone especially since we played you only 3 times after the nomar trade and we were 1-2 with a 8-2 win and lost the other two by 1 run each and we blew a lead in one of those games....so owning is not the correct term here. The difference is we now have a solid defense now to go along with the best lineup in the AL and we have the numbers to prove it so there is no question we will put some runs on the board and with Schilling and Perdo (who I might add was hitting 90+ in the first inning which we haven't seen all year)any team who faces us is at a disadvantage. The only advantage is we'll find a way to choke at somepoint...haha
I'm not sure if I would say Boston has the best lineup in the AL. As a baseball fan, I am a Twins fan first, BoSox fan second. But in all honesty, the Yankees have the best lineup in baseball. Jeter, A-Rod, Sheffield, then Matsui. That's a pretty tough lineup to get through for any pitcher. All I know is that during the regular season, the Twins just found ways to win against the Red Sox. I like our chances. I think pitching-wise the starting rotation is a dead-even matchup. You have more depth, but Johan Santana is the best pitcher in the league right now, bar none. As far as the bullpen is concerned, I like our depth.
So why did we lead the league in every major offenseive category besides home runs? Its not just about names its about production and most runs scored is really all that matters... and with the way Damon has been hitting I'd take him over anyone at the lead off spot right now....not to mention the first ever 40-40 combo of Ortiz and Manny....I'm not saying we have by far the best lineup but 1-9 in the AL there is noone better than us....now we just have to continue to show that. And yes Santana is the best pitcher in baseball right now and he kind of reminds me of a left handed version of pedro (when he was dominant).....but if there is someone to go pitch for pitch with him in a big game that guy is schilling and he is probably the only pitcher in the AL that would have a chance if he were to face santana.
As far as the lineup is concerned, I still think NY has a stronger lineup. Pound for pound, NY puts better talented players in their lineup than any other team. The Red Sox have a good lineup, but I still like NY's potential better than any team right now. I agree that Schilling would definitely step it up against Santana. The one thing I haven't seen from Santana (and haven't had the opportunity to see) is how he pitches under playoff pressure. We'll get to see that on Saturday.
R they Twins really gonna pitch Santana on 3 days rest? Because I think that's a big mistake. I'll give the Yanks the edge in hitting but the Sox have the edge easily in pitching. Pitching = championships The Twins have the best pitcher in baseball so that gives them a chance automatically. For that reason I'd rather face NY in the ALCS.
yea your right pitching is how you win championships and the Yankees dont have pitching. Twins dont have that great pitching either, Santana and Radke they have a great bullpen but other than those two how are they gonna keep the lead in the first 5 innings. As for lineups i'm not too sure about the yankees having it better tahn Boston. Giambi is hurt. The redsox also have two MVP candidates batting right next to eachother Ortiz and Ramirez. Also last year Bill Mueller won the batting title, Millar and Varitek are really good hitters too. Damon is a great leadoff man. Also Cabrara is a pretty good hitter. Also the reason Boston was struggling early is because of defense that is all solved now by Cabrara and Doug M. Two gold glovers. I think Boston will beat the Yankees if they play eachother in the next seris because overall Boston is the better team
Thanks jets for the voice of reason...I just don't understand how a team that ties or breaks records offensively can be worse than a lineup that leads in one catergory....homeruns...It just doesn't add up. Ya they have more names but they are not hitting better and they never were hitting better all season....Posada had a down year and has struggled in clutch situations...Cairo (need I say anything)....bernie williams/lofton just doesn't cut it at the plate anymore....then whoever they have at the 1B/DH spots has not compared to Ortiz/Millar(especially in the second half) And don't forget Nixon is back and he had a great september for virtually playing no baseball this year so he is just a bonus for us because we still lead the league in basically everthing without him. I'm sorry there is just nothing to back up that the Yankees have a better line up other than names....if Gardenhire didn't pull a grady little and had someone ready for the 12th instead of sending a wasted nathan out there this series would be 2-0 MIN and we'd be talking about what happened to how clutch the yankees are in postseason.
"I just don't understand how a team that ties or breaks records offensively can be worse than a lineup that leads in one catergory" Because the Bo Sox finished second to that lineup
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Rube Cred)</div><div class='quotemain'>"I just don't understand how a team that ties or breaks records offensively can be worse than a lineup that leads in one catergory" Because the Bo Sox finished second to that lineup </div> Exactly. No one is going to dispute that Boston has good pitching. Yet, if they have better pitching AND better hitting than NY, why did they finish 2nd? The Twins have 3 good starters. Don't forget, Carlos Silva only lost 1 game since the beginning of August. He's a better pitcher than people think.
I never said we had better pitching.....but I think at this point in time our rotation is in better shape, but there bullpen is much much better and that is the reason they won more games...bullpen and homeruns....they have been a clutch team this year with all the comeback wins...not the dominant yankees of old....if we had just figured out nomar was a cancer earlier we may have won the division....but hey it was 2 games difference and it all boils down to Mariano Rivera and Flash Gordon (wish we didn't give up on old flash)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pats37)</div><div class='quotemain'>(wish we didn't give up on old flash)</div> Ahhh...but that's the old Boston way!
overall we underachieved in the regular season. we shouldvbe won the division. we won the season series agaisnt NY & we'll win the ALCS also.
