I hear that Walton is getting bigger minutes at SF and everytime I watch the Lakers, George is committing silly fouls and not really contributing offensively. He got a big contract last year right? Is he that weak? I like Walton but find it amazing that he passes George on the depth chart that quickly.
he hasnt produced lately, I think it is because Malone is out, Malone got him easy shots and that is when he produced.
Well Devean George hasn't been the same Devean we were used to seeing earlier in the season. And during the Lakers rash of injuries, he hasn't been doing a good job with the basketball, he's committed too mant turnovers, and it seems like he's mentally lost on the basketball court. Luke Walton on the other hand takes the ball and drives to the basket. Even though he's just a rookie, he has excellent vision and passing skills, and he has been a huge part for some of our Laker victories this year. If Walton gets more minutes than George, so be it. 'Cause he's more deserving.
Yeah, Laker_Fever pretty much summed up why he doesn't play as much anymore. If not being so athletic, he wouldn't see much playing time at all. He'll shine sometimes with his shooting and sometimes his defensive ability. But I just don't think it's safe to have him in the game. He's always making some dumb foul, and then complains about it. We can't take that kind of attitude, I like Walton more and hope he continues to play. He sets up Kobe and Shaq so well in the offense. He's an aggressive player who will take it to the whole, or dish out when needed. Always helping LA in that matter, will do anything for the Lakers to win.
Laker_Fever and PNG basically summed that one up, and all I've got to say is... he wasn't worth a 4year 22million dollar contract... that's for sure. I couldn't believe it when we gave him this much money, because I thought that was probably much more than anyone else was going to offer. I knew Utah was trying to go after him with some cash, but I don't think they would have paid him that much. I guess we really can't complain, he's a good player and he does have the potential to be damn good, it's just up to him whether he will fill that potential or not. I'd live with that contract, it's not THAT bad.. I do hope he does fill that potential though, I still like Devean a lot.
He was playing great at the beginning. He was inconsistant a bit but was still showing up most nights. Now, he is just playing consistantly bad. He really hasnt done jack lately. You dont even hear the announcer say his name during the game unless he bricks a wide open shot or turns the ball over. Luke on the other hand has been playing solid every time he is on the floor. I think he deserves more minutes than george right now
Yes George is that bad. Slava too. Someone bust a cap in Kupchack if he gives Slava a similar contract at the end of this season.
Slava and Deaven George IMO are the worst lakers i have ever seen play. George can rebound pretty good from what ive seen, but he doesnt have an offensive presence in the game. Its like hes not even there.

You don't watch many Laker games do you... Oh yeah they're both better than Pargo for starters.. <div class="quote_poster">Quoting ANiMuS:</div><div class="quote_post">Yes George is that bad. Both are good players, George has been playing bad and doesn't have any confidence but he is still a good player believe it or not. Same with Slava, remember those days earlier this season when everyone was hyped on him?
Devean George is not horrible. But, yea, when Karl went out, that hurt him. Karl was drawing his defender away and giving George the open look. George is actually a pretty good shooter too, but, he's just going through an absolute horrendus stretch that just doesn't seem to want to end right now for him. Early in the year, when he was 6th in the league or somethin like that in FG% at around 52%, he was shooting with a lot of confidence and was getting some open looks and hitting a lot of big shots for them. But, yea, since Karl has gone down, his game has been hurt tremendously. I think, when Karl comes back, he will be getting more open looks and will start to regain confidence, cause, they really need him come playoff time. If he can get his shot back and give them another shooter, that will help. Plus, his minutes have also been cut due to Rick Fox coming back a few weeks ago. I also think Phil just wants him to get his confidence back, and that's why he's giving him less minutes. May not make sense to some, but, it does to me. Cause, in order for him to get minutes back, he has to prove he's worthy of them, and, by doing that, he'll work harder and perform better in both practices and in games. So, yea, that's the perspective I look at it with, and, it makes a lot of sense to me. But, yea, George isn't too bad of a player.

Please don't confuse the words of PNG and Laker Fever with those of mine.

George was playing incredible ball in the begenning of the season, but just fell off. I was never hyped about him myself, but I thought the guy was going to keep up his consistency. Also, Slava was a huge part of the Lakers even hanging in games while Shaq was out, and Kobe for a little bit of time. Then he fell off as well, and has just played horrible ball lately, can't finish a layup if his life depended on it.
George is NOT bad at all...He's actually a solid player IMO, but at the moment, he's just in a bad slump...His confidence is at a low, and conversely, Luke Walton has been playing great...I can assure you that come playoff time, Geroge will be in the rotation... We saw flashes of his potential early in the season, and there is no reason to believe all of a sudden, he's "the worst Laker ever." Give me a break...In fact, many Lakers believe Deavan is the most athletic player on the team. IMO, he's the best rebounding perimeter player on the squad, and he's a solid defender... In addition, I don't hear anybody complaining about Fox...He's shooting 31% FG, and 17% 3pt...The Lakers will need both Fox and George to play well, along with Walton, if they plan to make any noise in the playoffs...and I'm confident come playoff time, they won't disappoint... o, and btw, Medvedenko is averaging about 10 pts and 5 rbs in 24 minutes a game...I'll take those anyday from him (even if he plays some sissy D)
I think Devean George is one of those players who play well for big contracts and just let the contracts cash out while contributing little. We all remember how well he played in the 2002 playoffs, especially during the Nets series for the Lakers' third straight championship. Soon after that, he signed a contract but his plays just keep on going down. I don't know what, maybe pressure, but these players aren't responsible for the cash they're making, it's clearly mad!
On the bright side...the Pacers fooked up a lot worse with the Austin Croshere deal in a similar situation.
Just hope George gets out of this mental funk. I don't want him to end up like Nick Anderson. He had a real mental block.

George although only an average player, plays hard. He just fails to deliver, "a lot of the time." His shot has become erratic, 'Shard Lewis is even more consistent than he is. But that's no comparison, no competition between skills and potential there. Slava has one thing on his side that the Mailman lacks, age. He puts in and delivers, not as well but he gets the job done, all he needs is an attitude adjustment. These words sum up George, "inconsistent" and "decent".
George really isn't that bad. He has a variety of skills but depends on others to get him open shots. Sometimes I also question his mentality. He acts so dumb and whines to the officials alot. Instead, he should just go out and play his game. Remember how well he played for the beginning 25 games of this season and last year's playoffs? IMO he should be starting..

George really is that bad of a player. The only way he gets out of this funk is when Malone gets back, and the rest of the Big Four plays into a rhythm again. Because I'm sure you remember earlier in the season, when the Big Four played together and built that 18-3 record, the X-factor was clearly George. He basically contributed double doubles almost every night. But since the injury bug has plagued us, George has been nothing but an inconsistent, whiny, mentally dumb gump. I'd rather have Rick Fox in there at 75% than George being back in the starting lineup. When the Lakers play at Staples Center, they're so relaxed with their players, no matter if they play horribly, but let's say Devean was in an atmosphere like Philadelphia or New York, he'd be booed right out of the arena.
