I wish I could have an exam like this someday. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Talk about a slam dunk. Most college students dream of getting a final exam with easy questions like: How many goals are on a basketball court? How many quarters are in a high school basketball game? How many points does a 3-point field goal account for?...</div> http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/bask...s.ap/index.html
Wow, are the players really THAT dumb? I used to think of Georgia as a half-way decent school, but now I see that if you play basketball all you need to know is how many points a three pointer is. That's rediculous. Why do basketball players always get the red carpet?
i would not be shocked to see this at almost all Div.1 schools....we got our favs and can deny it all we want, but face it most of the successful schools do cheat...just aint got caught
i have witnesses that ben gordon, emeka okafor, and charlie villanueva go to class.. every now and then.. and are at least on campus. ;0
I highly doubt Okafor can have a 3.8 if he wasn't a school athlete and put in the same amount of academic work he does now.
Emeka Okafor's 3.8 is not credible. Jay Williams graduating Duke in three years majoring in economics on the other hand is. Some schools are clean, and you can see they are clean. Georgia and the rest of the SEC (exception: Vandy) most likely passes players that shouldn't pass while schools like Duke, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Stanford most likely don't.
There is one cat I know of that was a credible student athlete and that's Peyton Manning..I went to school during the same time frame and he had a class right beside one of mine and another right after mine...and i saw him all the time. Where as some of the athletes of the time at UT..Peerless Price..Little Man Stewart..Jamal Lewis..never saw 'em on campus once.
From what I've read and heard from various sources (SI being the most notable), Okafor is the real deal in the classroom...He doesn't just have a token 3.7 GPA...He's majoring in Finance which is no easy subject (trust me), unlike some players who have BS majors like history or communication EDIT: btw, i just caught this days after i posted this lol, but when I said "BS majors", i didn't mean Bachelor of Science (but I'm sure no one was confused)...just wanted to clarify Heres one online article i dug up... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">So why can?t Okafor bask in the attention and rest on his laurels just for a minute? Other players do it. Why not Okafor? Books first Okafor can?t let down because he is preparing for life after basketball. Success has come so fast for Okafor he?s certain that it all could be taken quickly away. His success in college hasn?t been limited to athletics. Okafor, who?s majoring in finance, has a 3.7 grade point average since arriving on campus in the summer of 2001. He is well ahead of his class and had 63 credits - you need 120 to graduate - prior to the current semester. "You never know what?s going to happen with basketball," Okafor said. "I?m not going to put all my eggs in one basket. I?m prepared if something happens." His goal is to graduate after the 2003-04 season, something that he should do with ease at his current pace. It?s why he wakes up in the middle of the night and starts studying. It?s why Okafor spends spare time on road trips in the study hall that is set up in Taigen?s hotel room. It?s why he and Taigen visit museums during road trips while teammates sleep.</div> LINK
I really admire all players who take a sincere intrest in their studies. Okafor is a role model for young kids who wish to play pro ball. I mean if he gets injured and is unable to play basketball he needs something to fall back on. Its good to see him getting his degree, a non bs one in that as well.
This doesnt shock me at all. I think a # of Universities use some type of method to get their scolarship players over. Its easy to call out the University of Greogia because of the way Jim Harrick was outed last year. But I think the NCAA commission needs to work harder to out the teams that have skeleton buried deep in their closets. To me college sports is pretty much just a scam. I mean you got ST. John's paying players to play. You got the University of Colorado foootball staff hiring strippers to help recruit players. You got former U of Mizz players saying that recieved passing grades just so they can play. And the list goes on. College sports is all about winning & money. And then people complain that our young star professional athletes on care about money. But thats all they have learned from their adult role models such as coaches, teachers, Deans. They are all usually involved in ways to get college players thru the system. So why be mad when college players become professional players. And continue the trend of getting over?

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting ANiMuS:</div><div class="quote_post">I highly doubt Okafor can have a 3.8 if he wasn't a school athlete and put in the same amount of academic work he does now.</div> does that even make sense? of course not.
