    I was just pondering possible players that Charlotte could pick in their expansion draft that could possibly be built around for the future. Obviously there aren't many, most will be protected, and I doubt they pick up a big name free agent because of limited cap to sign a full roster. Anyhow, while going over free agents I came across player who once carried the label, "Franchise."

    Perhaps a healthy Jay Williams could head to Charlotte? Is it possible? What do you think?

    You are forgetting two Keys that wont let him play.

    1) The Grizz will protect him
    2) HE would have to be a free agent. Which i Dont think he is..

    Umm....I think that he's talking about Jay Williams who was waived by Chicago, not Jason Williams.

    Well if Luol Deng goes pro, you will probably be able to draft him, and you could build around him, or I have a feeling Jerry Stackhouse will be exposed, he went to college in Carolina and has ties there, you can take him and build around him for a couple of years while the player you draft gets some experience.

    Yeah I was referring to Jay Williams who was recently released by Chicago. Jay Williams showed alot of potential, I simply believe he was just unhappy in Chicago and didn't perform to his potential because of the disapproval of his situation. I'm not sure how healthy Jay Williams currently is, but I'd defintely take a chance on him if I were The Bobcats. Think about it, a possible allstar point guard who you could tie up long term for cheaper than most because he's coming off an injury. I'd take the chance if he's given the ok by the doctors...

    williams will be most improved player of the year next season....
    I cant believe chicago is just letting a former nubmer 1 pick go...
    They figure his carerr is over so they were kind enough to offer him an executive spot..
    but take shaq and kobe...
    they both hate each other
    but they cant win without eachother...
    Charlotte needs to grab williams and down the road im sure they'll be landing mccants
    add that to their 4th pick and seems liek you have a rising franchise

    if I'm not mistaken Jay Williams says he feels he owes it to Chicago to play for the Bulls when he is healthy again because of the way Paxson dealt with his accident.

    If Bobby Hurley and Demarr Johnson's play after their accidents is any indication, I do not expect Williams to be anywhere near the player he was...and as Franksta metioned above, Chicago is going to have first crack at William's comeback...if they feel he can't contribute anymore, then I don't think the Bobcats are going to have a different opinion...

    And as for drafting a franchise player in their inaugural year, history is agaisnt the bobcats...none of the recent expansion teams (Tor, Van, Char, Orl, Minn, Mia) were able to draft a mainstay franchise player in their first draft...at least to my knowledge they didn't....

    Get Antwan Jamison from Dallas. He's still young and has loads of talent. He's just rotting in Dallas.

    Yeah good point...

    Toronto = Damon Stoudamire
    Vancouver = Bryant Reeves
    Minnesota = Pooh Richardson
    Orlando = Nick Anderson
    Charlotte = Rex Chapman
    Miami = Rony Seikaly

    Although Anderson and Seikaly spent quite a few years with their teams... they weren't superstar level. Damon Stoudamire WAS a great pick at the time, won Rookie of the Year and looked like their future point guard... but it didn't turn out that way. The one difference is that the highest pick was Reeves at #6, Charlotte gets #4 [meaning in '95 Toronto or Vancouver (whoever had #4) could have gotten Rasheed Wallace or Kevin Garnett] so it's hard to compare the Bobcats with expansion teams of the past, the NBA is different and the rules are different.

    Jay Williams wouldn't work well there I think. I believe and feel that Hubie Brown is the only guy who can truly control him and make him play the way he does in the Grizzlies. He'd be good enough to start the franchise seeing as a PG and C are essential to being even just a decent or mediocre team.

    However I see nothing wrong, if he's under control, he may be good for you. Much like Bibby, he's improved in a lot of aspects, just not All-Star material. But beggars can't be choosers right? He's matured and has a very pretty well balanced game. I think he could fit well. However if you don't want him so much, how about going after Nash, NVE or Steve Francis, I think they'll be available pretty soon.

    Better yet, go for a C, like say Blount or someone like that in the like. Although if you want to succeed you're better off getting someone like or as good as Dampier or a healthy Camby.

    I dunno, he was pretty good, and Brand and Maggette are also pretty good, and Battier is good but is in a situation that won't allow him to get big minutes, but he's a great guy off the bench.

    Magic Johnson, you're talking about Jason Williams, I think the thread which is old was about Jay Williams (Bulls).
