<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Mark Cuban and Don Nelson had the same hope when they acquired Antoine Walker just a week before the season began. They hoped Walker would be their new Nick Van Exel. The Mavericks expected Walker to play with a strut and a sneer. They were sure he'd fearlessly hoist (and make) crunch-time shots. They figured he could provide some fiery leadership, after the departures of Van Exel and Avery Johnson left no Mav behind to jump in people's faces. Sixty-odd games into the season, even though Walker has indeed done some of those things occasionally, Dallas has been forced to admit that 'Toine is no Nicky. Van Exel, for all his supposed troublemaking on the way in, never complained about shots or minutes as a Maverick. Nelson, in fact, often had to pull Van Exel aside and beg him to shoot more. The Mavericks' core trio of Dirk Nowitzki, Steve Nash and Michael Finley loved Van Exel and urged management not to trade him. But ... Even though Walker is openly pouty after seeing his minutes slashed, and even though Mavericks fans have turned on 'Toine as quickly as Bostonians have turned on Danny Ainge, no one in Dallas can quarrel with the Walker acquisition. Walker isn't handling his reduced role properly -- like the classy Antawn Jamison, for example -- but he also isn't sabotaging anything. </div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/stor...marc&id=1756849 They may need him but he still doesn't fit in with the team. They currently have about three stars (Jamison, Dirk, Walker) playing the same position in one way or another. This team needs to move someone for a legit centre
Dallas needs an ACTUAL Power Foward and an ACTUAL Center. Dirk is more of a Small Foward and he can't defend at the 4 or the 5 regardless if Dallas puts him in that postion or not. Walker is a POINT FOWARD, not a Power Foward. Antoine Jamison is another Small Foward player, Power Foward isn't where Jamison is capable of shining. Move Walker and move Jamison. Throw in draft picks, throw in prospects, throw in Bradley or Fortson. Do whatever you have to do in order to pick up a power foward and a center who can contribute defensively, anything on the offensive end is just extra because Dallas already has plenty of it. Doing so will also move some BIG salaries, freeing up more room to give Steve Nash the contract he deserves at the end of the season.

I knew it would be a problem, so Nowitzki, Jamison, and Walker all play the same positions and were stars for their respective teams. They do need to trade 1 of them and get a real defensive player that doesn't need to score. Its been stated before, they already have more than enough offense.
Jamison is not a 3, he's an inside player who gets slashing buckets and putbacks. He can mesh with Nowitzki and Nash just fine, the problem is Walker. He dominated the ball for the better part of the year and only after the ball was put back in Nash's hand did the Mavs start getting on a roll. The Mavs need Finley, Nowitzki and Nash to get back their chemistry and fit Jamison and Bradley into the mix. Bradley and Jamison fit the big three perfectly.

He spent a lot of time in GS as a SF, and I think that spot really suits him best. I've always felt he was a little undersized to play the PF spot, and though he played better at the 3. I thought Jamison should have been the starting SF and Dirk to the PF spot all along, Antoine is versitile and should be coming off the bench, and should have been coming off the bench.
They need a banger. Someone who'd show teeth that will make opponents think twice about posting up or slashing the basket. Not someone who jacks up countless threes to get his points.
Walker isnt needed IMO. They should trade him for a big man who is all about defense. They Should have a line-up like this: Pg: Nash If He goes to Toronto get a Jameer nelson type player. Sg: Finley Sf: Jamison Pf: Dirk C: Dampier <--- Get him for walker. 6th Man: Josh Howard
