The deal is Mashburn for Ollie, Newble and Diop. I think the Hornets throw in a future first rounder too. In all seriousness now, I'm a little hesitant when it comes to Mash. He is extremely fragile health wise and is not getting any younger (a love that dumb clique). I personally am a fan, but again he doesn't assist our defensive problems. I wouldn't want to give up too much for him.
i think defensively it's not really our personnel that's the problem as much as the fact that we don't have a system... hopefully with after a year together and a good solid training camp our defense will be much improved regardless of whether or not we bring in a guy who has that defender rep
I thought the addition of Mashburn was a good idea when we discussed it a month ago but I've changed my mind since then. Mashburn is on the downside of his career and fading at a pretty good speed. He's become injury prone and an even poorer defender than he was. I'm not sure the Cavs need a player like that. I'd prefer Jackson. He'd be cheaper to get, is still young and can continue to improve. He's also more athletic and a better defender. The Cavs still need to look to the future and acquire players who will be here long term. They've unloaded many of their young players this season and have become a much older team with players who won't be here much longer.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Mr_Infante:</div><div class="quote_post">I made a thread a month ago about the Mashburn rumor, and to tell you the truth, I would take Mash over Jax. Players that were took under Silas' wing tends to be better suited for the roster and would fit the Cavs style pretty well. I've also heard a Jamal Magloire rumor too. But never found a source.</div> Oh I didn't know that the rumor had been discussed before, anyway, if you really take Jamal over Stephen that means you prefer the Cavs' offense to slow down too. Jamal likes to post it up and do fade aways. At the beginning of the season when Jamal was injured, the Hornets and Baron Davis was streaking, BD would go on a fastbreak and make pullup transition jumpers. They were more of a run-and-gun style of team without him. They were more successful... and I really think Jamal needs to be traded away somewhere if the Hornets want to be successful. But I'm hoping it's not Cleveland because Jamal's game efficiency depends on the half-court attack offense style, which can hurt LeBron's transition fastbreak offense. We wouldn't see as much LeBron jaw-dropping fastbreak dunks anymore.
Jackson isn't going to come cheap. He is going to overinflate his contract by putting up big numbers on a team that is running and gunning with wreckless abandon as of late. Even Bobby Sura (no disrespect, I love this guy) has almost got a triple double a couple of times since the SAR, Ratliff, Sheed trades. Not to mention, he is no doubt going to be pissed at not landing a nice contract after his stint with the Spurs which ended with him having to take a pay cut to play for Atlanta (ouch). It wouldn't surprise me if the Spurs didn't make a run to get him back because they didn't want him to walk in the first place. I really don't see him ending up here. I'm still riding the Brent Barry bandwagon as far as free agent signings.
^^^ If you are talking about over inflated contracts, then you will find Barry in the same bracket as Jackson. There are alot of feelers out there for Barry, so a bit of a bidding war will arise. I still prefer Jackson over Barry and Mash, although it seems as if Chicago may be his preferense. I guess Jackson's improved play has allowed this rumour to last 48 posts.
A little bit of info Stephen has said he thinks the chances are high he will be in San Antonio next year, Pop wants him back and the Spurs tried to get him back right before the deadline. However Hedo has played very well in S.A this year and there might not be room for Jackson, Spurs will have a few options on what to do in the summer.
Spurs have Hedo and Ginobili coming off contract, so if they pursue Jackson, one of those will become available. I would love to have Ginobili, but he aint going anywhere soon. As for Hedo, I am confused. He plays really well for a month, then disappears. Dont know whether I'd commit to him.
I don't think there are going to be too many teams out there with lots of cap room this summer. Players like Jackson and Barry will most likely be signed for the mid level exception which should be about $5 million. These guys will probably have to choose where to play for the same money from each team. I'd be satisfied with either Jackson or Barry. Hedo is worth a look too. I also worry some about his inconsistencies Karma. He is a versatile player who can handle, hit the 3 and can play G at 6-10. Cavs have never been able to bring in any good FA's so 1 of these guys would be fine.
