<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">The entire state of Texas does not cheer for the Spurs. The Spurs also don't have the same historical following the Laker franchise has. The Spurs are a small market team in comparison to the Lakers and they don't have the media presence Los Angeles have. The Nielsen Ratings spans 70 countries, and most fans from foreign countries are not familiar with the Spurs or Nets, which attributed to low ratings. Besides it has nothing to do with Kobe, so why mention it? If the Rockets made the Finals, they would probably have the highest ratings ever because of Yao's support from Asia, does this mean Yao is the greatest of ALL TIME, since he is the best entertainer based on the Nielsen ratings? Yes if Sacramento, Minnesota, Memphis, or Denver make the finals the ratings will be low once again. But we won't know what those numbers are because the Lakers will be in the Finals this year.</div> well what can i say, i like ur optimism...i take back my comments about u not being a true laker fan, heat of the moment, got out of hand, you show your intelligence with your posts, i respect that, now have a good night, hope we could do this again soon!
So that is why LeBron is all over the planet...hype. So the NBA just picked this random cat and said "we will use you to make millions"? What the hell are you talking about? Jealousy, all it is.

Come on, if the guy had some respect for the veterans of the league, he would take all fo that ridiculous clothes off and stop trying to shine himself in the spotlight, Lebron is what we call in my economics class a "marketed Athlete" good for making money with endorsements.</div> I disagree with this... LeBron didn't do this to disrespect all the veterans. He did this for all the fans who've loved him since the high school days. He is their superstar, Nike told him to do this to make fans smile and LeBron just obliged (and of course took that $90 mil). I think a LeBron is good for the NBA anytime because he can handle things that even veterans can't so he's definitely a good icon for everyone else to follow. Despite his success, I believe King is one of the most down-to-earth players in this L, to actually disrespect veterans does not sound like King at all.

Ill admit the kid is a good athlete, but thats where it stops, put me on the court for 40 minutes, and i will live up to 20 points, 40% fg shooting, and 5 dimes and boards, playing 3 positions, its not that hard...really not when u have the green light to do everything, something kobe didnt have as a rookie, playing on an established laker team averaging 15 minutes a game.

The majority of James fans are like the majority of Melo fans, they are not bandwagon fans, they watch to see what they are going to do next. I should not have to explain any this to you, but if you actually believe that LeBron James is a conspiracy theory then there is nothing I could do to save you.
Carmelo Anthony is going to be in a movie and has had his fair share of commercials. He's also been very vocal about not being taken ahead of Darko or LeBron. The people creating the bandwagon are the reporters, newscasters, and corporations. Most of LeBron's fans have been there all along, since he grew up in the Cleveland area. You can't blame LeBron or his fans for the hype. He's been very humble and actually has a knowledge of NBA history and the pioneers of the game. He has not been handed anything, he's earned it. If you could play 40 minutes in the league and put up the numbers LeBron has, then we would see your face on a cereal box.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Krazygreen:</div><div class="quote_post">haha ya it was a nickname, nothing big at the time, but its a global frenzy now, hes dubbed the king in commercials? the chosen one? he participates in these activities, he obviously understands they are calling him the chosen one and the king...do you understand the words that i am typing?? hes not a stupid guy, hes making over 100 million dollars, hell take any name and any roll as long as the money keeps rolling in. I could have hyped up Dwight howard in the start of the season, had him shoot 30 shots a game, average 40 minutes, play 3 different positions, call him king, and he will be the next "chosen one"...ya dig kid?</div> Yes, LeBron James is the "chosen one" and he is "King". This is not an ordinary high-school NBA player. The body for sure is not ordinary, but the talent is no ordinary, and the maturity and composure aren't either. It's exteremely rare to find a cat who's got this amazing combination of talent, maturity, composure, attitude. Place yourself in LeBron's shoes... you get drafted #1st and already perceived as the team's sure-fire winning and ticket-sales saviour before you even played a single game. You're not guaranteed by God that you're gonna make an easy transition from high-school to this L, Nike signed you that fat contract and remained optimistic that signing you three times Carmelo's money is the right move, not the other way around. Sure, all you got to do is just play your game, but can you? He, by far (despite PPG of ONLY 20.8), has exceeded everyone's expectation. He not only met, he "exceeded" it. Isn't "exceed" a beautiful word?

So the NBA just picked this random cat and said "we will use you to make millions"? What the hell are you talking about? Jealousy, all it is.</div> LeBron did have much more hype than anyone has ever had entering the league. Yes he did have a great High School career, but so did so many other players from this league. Kobe posted up big time numbers, K.G. posted up big time numbers, T-Mac posted up big time numbers, but they didn't recieve all the attention LeBron has gotten. He isn't that much better than these guys, I think his recognition had a lot to do with people looking at high schoolers differently because of guys like K.G. and Kobe. If a guy like Kobe came in the league now, he'd also be getting 40MPG and 20ppg in LeBron's spot, most likely atleast. It's silly to compare stuff like this really, because LeBron is coming into the league where high schoolers are looked at much more than when K.G. and Kobe came in. Hell when these guys came in it wasn't even normal for players to come straight out. I am also one to not like him having the "throne" of stuff like nikebasketball.com, because I do also see a little disrespect to people like Carter and Kobe by that. Carter has been representing Nike for years, and Kobe came in just around when LeBron did with much more experience and had been proven. I really do hate the fact that he got crowned for Nike Basketball before he even played a single game in the league..

LeBron had so much hype and sales before he played a single game in the league, and I've seen many people claim he is their favorite player and he is the best player before he had even played a single game in this league.

AGAIN... What is this "hype"? You guys are acting like you really believe that the media just selected LeBron to be their guy to make money off of. It does not work that way. There has to be a buzz, a "want" to see this kid by the masses. If the people did not want to see LeBron James, his high school games would not have been on TV, he would not have a contract by Nike, and he would not have been drafted number one. You get where you are by your game, period, end of story. Sure Kobe, KG, and T-mac had the numbers, but they did not have the manly body of LeBron James to go with it, they did not have the court vision either, which many say is LeBron's best talent. Keep the hatin coming, I am enjoying this.
Again, LeBron did not ask to be made the King of Nike basketball. Nike made the decision, they are in it to ride the LeBron craze, and make money off of him. He's the hottest commodity in the NBA right now, like it or not. LeBron has had more exposure in the media than KG and Kobe, but both KG and Kobe had plenty of hype coming out of high school. The high school hype has been there since the Moses Malone, Dominique Wilkins, and Dr. J eras. There are just more marketing distribution channels to glorify these athletes.

If anybody think that lebron will win a title with kobe still in the league, ur smoking something</div> Well, sometimes you don't take nicknames too seriously because LeBron didn't choose this nick for himself. I wouldn't wanna know why Ronald Murray would be called "Flip" either... how many flip-flops does he have at home? I don't care but Flip sounds pretty good and that's good enough I guess. Why all the hype? Before playing an NBA game ("there's 99.9 percent chance that LeBron will not NOT be a superstar"), this kid was already projected as a sure-fire superstar in this L and anxious fans flocked into arenas just to see if it's true... thus the hype. First game? It's not bad, check the stats vs. the Kings, all I remember is a near triple double with 25 points... he is establishing himself as one hell of a superstar by day.
