Does anybody feel the Lakers can still capture the #1 seed? The Lakers are on a nine game winning streak, they're 1.5 games out of first, and with Sacramento playing a brutal schedule entering the Texas Triangle, is there still a chance the Lakers can overtake Sacramento for both the Pacific Division title and the #1 seed?

51 now, 8 games to go. I believe, they should be winning the rest of their games. Cuz there smoking teams right now, but still struggle a bit with bad teams. I predict 59. But I don't know if they could get the no1 seed even if they do.

I don't think they will get the #1 seed but they are playing amazing ball and the other teams should be pissing their pants right about now.

With a Kings loss to the Spurs a tonight, the Lakers are now only 1 game behind the #1 spot. We've also got one more game against the Kings. I think that there is a very good chance that we will take the top spot.

If the Kings lose a few more games its really likely, but to me it doesn't matter too much though, getting into the playoffs is the most important things, so if you save your energy for the playoffs and slip to 4th or 5th place its ok with me. So yeah i just dont want rockets to meet lakers.

I think the Lakers could do it. They're playing better than anyone in the league at this current moment and the Kings are playing fairly terrible. Plus, when this time of the year comes around, when the playoffs come near, the Lakers seem to have that killer instinct to just turn their game up a notch when they need to. So, I see them getting that top seed due to the fact that they're fully healthy and playing fantastic, whereas the Kings are slipping. Right now, I think we're seeing the Laker squad that was supposed to be able to win 70+, and that could be a scary thing for other teams.

Are you referring to you not caring about the Lakers slipping into the 4th or 5th spot, or the Sacramento Kings? It's very important for the Lakers to grab the #1 seed in the playoffs because the Lakers desperately need the homecourt advantage. Their weakness is on the road where they haven't been dominant all season at just 20-18. You don't ever want to be a team starting a series on the road as a lower seed. The odds are always against you. Now I know some other Laker fans in here think we can pull out the 2001 team, and just automatically cruise to the Finals, I disagree. The Lakers are a far different team than the 2001 team we witnessed three years ago. On the road.

I'd never thought the Lakers would be in this position given how well Sacramento was playing without Webber. But so it seems they are worse team with Webber in the lineup. Great for us bad for Sacramento ( and what's up the Sac Fans booing Webber?, ingrates, no wonder that town never won a championship). Lakers definitely have a very good chance to clinch the #1 seed in the West considering 1. Sacramento has a very tough schedule (on the road) and 2. Lakers playing most of the remaining games at home. I agree that home court advantage is important for the Lakers given how well they've been playing at home all season (tied #1 best home record). I don't think the Lakers thought they'd be in this position to secure home court, but it's there if they want it, so why not take it?

I think they will, at the rate they are going right now. Kings are just starting to fall.

Man, if they continue blowing past everyone and the Kings keep losing steam, why not?

I had this discussion ago with some friends and at the time I didn't think the Lakers had a chance to catch the Kings. They were about 5 games back, and I doubted the Kings would lose 6 more games than the Lakers would down the stretch. However, the curse of Chris Webber has taken center stage in Sacramento once again. Since he's returned the Kings have fallen apart mentally and physically. Bobby Jackson, Brad Miller, and Vlade Divac have all been nagged by injuries and have slowed down their production. Poor shooting nights by Webber has led to losses and has cracked the team chemistry the Kings were having before he returned. The combination of a healthy Laker team and a Kings team in turmoil has allowed the Lakers to gain tremendous positioning in the division and they now find themselves only 1 game out. By the end of the night we could actually see the Lakers and Kings tied for the division. The way the Lakers are playing I don't see them losing another game for the rest of the year. I think the Lakers are more than capable of capturing the number seed and we will all witness the Kings choking once again when it counts. Go Lakers!

Yes they will, THe Lakers have been playing marvelous ball, while the Kings have been play sub-par. The Kings are currently losing right now to the Mavericks, and if the Lakers win tonight they tie the Kings for first, if the Kings loose. Sac does hold the tie breaker but there is still one more game between the two, I think L.A. has been playing hot ball and will continue all throughout the playoffs into the finals..The rest of the league should be peeing their pants as of right now.

P.S. does anyone know the rules on a tie breaker?

The Kings is getting smoked right now by the Cavs. Chris really isn't helping them out, he can't really jump or anything. I don't wanna get ahead of myself, but the Lakers will get the no.1 seed. Webber isn't really doing any good for the team right now.
