Well the Raptors season is slowly coming to an end, and no its time to see out plans for next season. Some changes might have to happen, GM and Coach, and we'll have to sign some players. Well the Raptors need to look at: Getting a Center, and getting a PG. These are our prospects: Center Mark Blount Etan Thomas Erick Dampier Marcus Camby Adonal Foyle Chris Mihm (Rest FA) Mehmet Okur (Rest FA) Dan Gadzuric (I think) Jerome James *Draft* Point Guard Jameer Nelson Ben Gordon Devin Harris Damon Jones Brevin Knight Carlos Arroyo Steve Nash Jeff McInnis For the Center I say we got after Dampier (not too likely), Blount or Etan Thomas, we can also go after Foyle as a backup. (We are not too rich though so I dunno). For out PG, Steve Nash, or the DRAFT. I would like us to look at the draft, and if we can get someone like Nash then sick. Players that could slip under the Radar with no one watching: Rodney White Marquis Daniels Dan Gadzuric and Stromile Swift Many people don't want to trust per 40 or per 48 minute stats because they say the players plays againt other bench guys, or that they couldn't do it for 40 mins (35-40) a night. When you look at it though all those players who have those big per 40 numbers, when he starts against when he comes off the bench; his shooting percentage will almost always be higher as a starter, and so will his 40-minute averages. Their are exceptions once in a blue moon with guys like Tractor Traylor or Oliver Miller who can't play 40 minutes a night. An example is Micheal Redd in 2001-2002, guess what I was saying the Raptors should get him, imagine Redd instead of Mo-Pete. Michael Redd. Redd in 2001-02 had 11.4 points and 3.3 rebounds, and per 40 minutes, over 21 points and about six rebounds. Even though he had per 40 minute averages that would prove he could be an All-Star, no one wanted to take it seriously. Redd was a free agent in 2001-02 and got zero interest. He signed a four-year, $12 million deal with the Bucks, and waited two weeks into training camp to get that much. (he turned down a Dallas offer though). Also lets look at the players that teams decided to give money: Lafrentz, Malik Rose, Sczerbiak, Ricky Davis, okay thats not too bad. Then Jerome James, Devean George, Najera, Jeff Foster, Bender, Buckner and Pat Garrity all got more money than Redd. The per 40 minute averages also worked for guys like Maggette, Randolph, and Kirilenko, but people still ignore it. We need to go after Etan Thomas or Mark Blount as our starting center, and Adonal Foyle as our backup. We can also look at trying to draw in Rodney White or Rasual Butler. PG- (Jameer Nelson or Ben Gordon or on of those PG's)/ Rod Strickland/ Mason Jr SG - Jalen Rose/ Alvin Williams/ SF - Vince Carter/ Rasual Butler or Rodney White (if possible)/*Daruis Rice*(or Jaime) PF - Chris Bosh/ Moiso/ *Jaime Lloreda * (or D.Rice) C - Etan Thomas/ Adonal Foyle/ Other Backup (incase of injury) We can trade Donyell Marshall right now, yes I know sounds crazy, but we need Bosh as our PF and Donyell's stock is really high right now. (going down as we speak with all these bad games, not really but) I don't know what we can get, but sign and trade for Rodney White and someone else on the Nuggets (Jon Barry?, goo high energy bench guy) wouldn't be bad. Something with a versatile player like Jonathan Bender also wouldn't be too bad, but I don't know. We can get better so whatever is the best option, but I think we might need to do it We also need to look out for Stro-Show and see if we can get him. We can try packaging Marshall with Lamond, but that would mean we'd have to take 8-10 million in contract and that could also mean the team would probably give us some guy thats overpaid also. Stephen Jackson can also be looked at, but I dunno.

Nice uhh..conversation with yourself... 8 minutes and three consecutive posts in the same thread. Stop Post whoring. About the big man situation its is h huge concern, but the moves Grunwald and KO made to alleviate the strian off of Donyell and Chris's back were a bit questionable. We should have never let go of Baxter. Also, a priority is to get rid of Lammond, unless he shows some turn around. He wants to leave and won;t do any good for us The chances of getting Nash are Slim to None. Whats our cap situation? If we did get Nash, which I still thinks doubtful, It would prove good for the Raptors, and the fans. again, the only arguemnt I have with all of your arguemtns,w hich is purely statistics and skill relateis our cap situation, I haven't checkedd REAL GM tos ee who our free agents or any of that, but what effect will our salaray put on who we can sign. BTW: Trade Donyell? -.-' thats a terrible suggestiong
og15, please don't triple post, include all info in one post, or wait until someone else posts before you do again. Thanks This offseason I'd like to get Jerome James, or Brandon Haywood as a Center. Two big players that do a good job defending, and a good job rebounding. In the east we don't need a dominant scoring center, which is why these two would be good options. For a point guard I would look at Devin Harris out of Wisconsin for the draft, or Ben Gordan out of UCONN. Both of these players can get in the paint and have nice jump shots, something that has been missing from our previous PGs for a long time (excluding Jalen).
i think we should go after mark blount. hes had an outstanding year, and his defense and offense would fit into coch o'neils system really well. hes a solid post/on the ball defender, and since coach doesnt play much zone defense, he's perfect for that role. hes good at hitting those mid range jumpers, so him and bosh on the block, gives us options for pick & pop plays. another option is to trade up in the draft and try and get okafor. looks like we gonna miss the playoffs, so thats a legitimate possibility. detroit might let okur go in order to resign rasheed. okur hasnt been too happy comming off the bench, he wants to start. toronto can start him and give him the money hes gonna want. thats another possibility id like to see haywood or james on our team, but not starting, off the bench. for a point guard, getting jeff mcinnis isnt a strech. him and vince are good friends from the north carolina days, its a possibility
We don't have too much money, Glover, Strickland, Curry and some other little contracts come off. I think all in all we have about 11-12 million to spend in the offseason.
I want to see a competent centre play in our rotation. Etan Thomas and Adonol Foyle are good and defensive minded. Ideally we want Erick Dampier. He can rebound, block shots, post, pretty much everything we ask for in a centre. Getting a point guard through the draft is sounding like a better idea each year. I like Ben Gordon, Chris Duhon and Jameer of course. Jalen at the point is getting really retarded. How can he be a point guard when he likes to shoot so much? I don't mind the idea of trading Donyell away but we have to get a very solid player in return. The fact is: Donyell can't guard Power fowards or centres. He provides good help off the ball but straight up he can't defend bigger players. He is an undersized power foward. If we get a true centre via free agency we could move Bosh to the 4 and have a good lineup.
Thats what I'm saying, if we aren't trading Vince, and we want to get some players, Donyell is our most valuable asset. Let's get it straight, Donyell is a very good player, but he can't guard post players well, and even though we were naming him MVP of the team we realized how ineffective he is without Carter and Rose, he's also been very off lately. I love Donyell but Bosh can't play Center anymore, please I can't bear seeing the poor kid suffer like that. Bosh has to move to the 4. If we get a PG and a Center, Rose will move to the 2, and Carter to the 3, and Donyell will then be the sixth man. If we don't get a center then we can use Donyell to trade for one, because we can't go through another Bosh-Donyell frontcourt year. Donyell isn't young either (31), so this is the high point of his career right now and if he digresses we won't be able to get anything for him later. His contract expires after next season, and if he's an FA he might be asking for more or we might even lose him and get nothing. I don't want to trade him for garbage though, so if we get a center (Etan or Blount, and Foyle as backup maybe), then he can be our sixth man off the bench.
we have lots of money to play with man, we got 8 contracts commin off the books. thats pretty good. more then enough money to make a couple key signings, and maybe even trade donyell for some deep bench mark blount would fit because hes what we need and would come at a good price no chance in us getting dampier. he's either goin to dallas or memphis.
arch, mo pete, michael curry, rod strickland, corrie blount, dion glover, roger mason jr, plus eric montross contract all come off the books at the end of the season. everyone else is scheduled to stay on. we didnt sign lammond btw, we just picked up his contract in the trade that sent yogi stewart to cleveland. btw...thats a lot of money to play around with. also, we're gonna have around $10-12 million freed up under the luxury-tax threshold. raps are in good shape. i wouldnt be surprised to see alvin williams get traded away due to his contract as well.
We can't trade Alvin unless something valuable is going with him, the people in the league aren't ignorant to Alvin's injuries. The thins is that we have about 12 million to spend, but we only have 7 players with contracts for next year, so all that 12 million basically has to go into signing all the guys we need. We can get Blount or Etan for about 5 million (hopefully), then whoever else, maybe Rasual for 3 million (will proabably stay in Miami).
I think we should go after Stromile Swift, he has been playin great for the grizzles, and torched us the last 2 times he played us. he has tons of talent, and could turn out to be a very good player.he has mad hops, and can block almost anyones ball. hes 6ft 9in and can play center if wanted. hes a free agent, and i think he would be a good guy to go after. i also think we should trade for Jonathan Bender, maybe traded Alvin Williams to get his contract off our backs. i would say like a Alvin Williams, Lamond Murray for Bender. he also has tons pf talent and could be a awesome player. hes 7ft and can shoot 3s.Indiana hasn't been happy wit him cause of injuries and his play. he doesn't get alot of playing time there either. make a trade for bender. i would definitely try for Dampier, but most likely we won't get him.he would dominate in toronto. I think we should resign mo-pete, he has been a good playere here, and he can turn into a good player. In the draft we should try to get a big man of point guard, but i would like to go after andre Emmitt, Ben Gordan, we have the 7th pick most likely.
Okay, Alvin Williams and Lamond Murray for Bender? FIrst the contracts don't match, and the day any team agrees to get a super injury prone player (he's tough but), and a guy who hasn't played all year and is now just known as a whiner I'll know some divine intervention happened. In other words its not going to happen, we can't trade Alvin and Lamond together to anyone. Alvin or Lamond will have to go with someone like Donyell for us to get rid of them. No one wants Mo-Pete back, I don't beleive someone actually said re-sign him, I'm really surprised. The most inconsistent thing on the planet, and he was better when he first came and has just been getting worse. Vince says change it up
Quote:

INDIANAPOLIS -- The next general manager of the Raptors should be aggressive and be like Isiah Thomas. At least that's the opinion of franchise player Vince Carter, who spoke yesterday for the first time on Thursday's dismissal of Glen Grunwald. Carter and Grunwald have been linked since draft day in 1998, when the Raptors acquired the athletic Carter. Grunwald had taken over from Thomas as GM a year earlier and turned a very messy situation into a winning team that would come within a Carter jump shot of playing for the Eastern Conference title in 2001. "I like the mentality Isiah is taking," Carter said of Thomas, who runs the New York Knicks. "He's just going out there and making it happen. "Just do what needs to be done, plain and simple."

i think we should trade him while we have him to at lease get something for him, maybe trade morris Peterson and lamond murray for Bender or somethin like that. i think we need to hire a very very aggresive GM to really get some good deals, and get the guys we need to make the playoffs, or even go deep into the playoffs. we should try to do like the grizzles did, get an agressive GM, and a good coach that has experience. i was thinkin maybe doc rivers as a coach, bryon scott, doug collins maybe. what do u guys think????????? but i think we have to do some big stuff this off season and get some key players. i really like the way Stromile Swift has been playin, and he has played awesome against us. i also like Quintin Richardson, dampier of corse, and some big men.who do u guys think we should sign??????????
We can't get Q-Rich, first because he's going to be asking for a substantial amount of money, and second because we don't need a starting SG or SF. Lamond and Mo-Pete who we shouldn't re-sign anyways contracts totally exceed Jonathan Bender's, and no one would accept that trade either. You have to think here man, if we are trying to get rid of them other teams aren't going to be wanting them, expecially Indiana, what do they need a bench SG and SF for when they have Fred Jones, Croshere, Bender, and can probably sign better guys in the off-season b/c of how good they are.
stromile cant play center. we've been playing with an undersized center all year, and we are dead last in the league in giving up rebounds. the LAST thing we need is to sign stromile and play him at center. thats a retarded idea. dampier prolly wont sign with the raps. id be surprised to see him even come to the east, lots of teams are going to be gunnin for him, and i see him going to dallas or memphis. i really think mark blount is our best option. hes a legit center/7 footer, great on the glass. can score the mid range jumper. hes 2nd in the league in fg%. his game fits oneil's system perfectly.
Yea I really don't want Stromile, I'm tired of all these F-C players playing at the 5 for us. We need someone who is a C-C, just a center, not a PF being forced to play the 5. Stromile for us would be good as an energy guy off the bench and with him and Bosh being in the froncout together at times we could run the ball a lot, but just to get him to solve our center problems is dispicable. Mark Blount is our best option, he's turning 29 so he's not old and he can play. If not him then Etan Thomas who is only 26, and if not Etan then maybe Foyle, but I don't know if he can be a starting C, and we can also look at Gadzuric, he'll help if we want to play a running game, but he's still a little hectic to be a starter.
