After coming under fire, GM gets fired <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Toronto Raptors took the first step in what has already become a nasty front office rebuilding project by firing general manager Glen Grunwald, sources told ESPN today.</div> http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1773297 Found it on the "Breaking News" on ESPN. I was curious to know how Raptor fans would react to this move, any thoughts?
April Folls Joke? haha better not be. Heres another article: http://www.nba.com/raptors/news/grunwald_exit_040401.html I personlally didn't think tiw ould come so late in the season. I woulda thought the MLSE woulda just waited out tthe season, then fire during our offseason, the playoffs. I guess they realized it was most definite we woulwdn't make the playoffs theis year. I just hope KO doesn't get fired.
I have never been a fan of grunwald especially with the whole hakeem thing. Buti did respect him, and it is unfortunate that he is fired. I too hope that Kevin O'Neill is not getting fired, and we eventually get a natural center by next year.
Finally, I've been waiting for this to happen for a while, and I'm glad it did. Glen wasn't a terrible GM, but I was never a fan of him. This offseason I hope we can get someone to look into our bench. Our starting five isn't that bad, but we need some more depth, a big man, and possibly a PG.
This also seems like a way for Richard Peddie to save himself, he was responisble for getting KO, and also the one that dissmissed Rafer coming back.
Finally! This should be great news to Raptor fans, it's been along time coming just like the Magics former GM, Gabriel being demoted. Grunwald seemed to have lost his magic the last few seasons. I'm not sure if he was being held back by the owner and coaches, or a let down by the player acquisitions. A lot of the Raptors troubles can be traced back to all of their injuries, but a GM should consider a player's integrity and health concerns before making a decision on them. This is a much needed shake up for the franchise, and I'm very curious to see who they find to replace Grunwald. The Raptors have the players to be a playoff team with Carter, Rose, Marshall and a developing Bosh.

If bringing in KO was one of the main reasons for firing GG then Peddie should go as well because he pushed for KO to be our coach. Peddie seems to be involving himself in areas that he shouldn't be involved in. He lacks the required basketball knowledge to be doing such things so he should leave it up to the GMs to make the decisions. Since GG got fired, it's only right for Peddie to be next. As for KO, I think it's only best for him to leave as well. If the rumours are true about the players hating him, then you have no other choice but to fire the guy. I don't think he deserves the amount of blame that he's receiving, but he's just too flawed for us to risk another season with him.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Phreeze:</div><div class="quote_post">http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1773297 Found it on the "Breaking News" on ESPN. They went from laughing stock to a good deep team in a tough western conference. I think the raptors upper managment has to hire a bona fide GM with CREDENTIALS. Don't go out on a limb, don't give a young guy a shot, get someone who knows what they are doing.
Raptors pursuing Bill Laimbeer for GM??? <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">INDIANAPOLIS -- Bill Laimbeer's name has surfaced as potentially being a major player in the wake of the Raptors' shake up. Laimbeer, who works as a TV analyst for ABC/ESPN, is considered to be the next glamour guy when it comes to coaching and managerial candidates. Laimbeer was a member of the Bad Boys when Jack McCloskey, who yesterday replaced Glen Grunwald as interim GM, assembled a dominant Detroit team that won back-to-back NBA titles in 1989, '90. Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars, who were the best players on those Pistons teams, have since become top-flight executives. Laimbeer is said to be next in line and he definitely has connections to McCloskey, until yesterday a Raptors consultant who was brought to Toronto by Thomas. It is not known if the Raptors have interest in Laimbeer but it is known that Laimbeer, who coached Detroit's WNBA team to a title, wants to get into the NBA in a big way. </div> http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/TorontoSun/S.../02/405393.html I like the sound of a tough guy coming to Toronto and shaking up things. He kind of reminds of a hockey GM by the name of Bobby Clarke. I have no idea bout his ability though, that remains to be seen. Any Pistons fans out there that know what he's capable of?
Bill Laimbeer should be a good pick-up. Like Courtvision said, he is alot like the GM of the Philidelphia Flyers Bobby Clarke. Im sure Bill will shake things up, but hopefully he wont trade Vince like some rumors have said. Toronto Raptors playing in may 2005?
I think if Bill gets here he WILL trade Vince Carter. Hopefully he won't fall into the stigma that follows Vince around about being a soft player but I can't see him and Bill live together peacefully
Well, If he does trade Vince away.. Hopefully we can get another premier player instead of a first round pick like we got for t-mac. That was just Sh*t. If he trades carter our line-up could look like this. Pg: Ben Gordon From Draft Sg: Jalen Rose Sf: Whoever we trade Vince For Pf: CB4 C: Whoever We Trade Marshall For.
well the only reason we got a first round pick for t-mac is because it was a sign and trade deal. frankly we are lucky we even got that. t-mac was leaving no matter what C: whoever we trade marshall for? how do you know he'll trade marshall? why cant we just sign a center? if he trades vince, i doubt we'll get a premier player. who wants to part with their premier player? we'd prolly only get depth off the bench and a first round pick. i hope he doesnt trade away vince. hes had a great year
<font color="red">Threads merged. Guys I've seen 4 GM threads the past 3 days, there is only the need for one thread. Title edited by thefranchise3, so we can talk about Glen's firing and his replacement in the same thread.</font>
if we get Bill and he trades away Vince i won't even like the raps, hes one of the best players in the NBA, and he put up huge numbers for us, y would we trade him. i think we should play the free agency maket, and make a couple trades, and get a good player in the draft. thats should make us a good team , that could make a run in the playoff
Maybe you guys should get Layden? Morris Peterson would get 120 million $ contract and also you would get half of roster full of undersized PF's.
Raptors Watch <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">EXPECT O'NEILL TO JOIN PACERS As the season winds down, the odds of Kevin O'Neill returning as Raptors coach grow thinner. Already, there's talk that O'Neill will reunite with good friend Rick Carlisle, who has helped the Indiana Pacers solidify top spot in the East throughout the playoffs</div>
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Carlisle praises O'Neill's work and believes the Raptors would be competing for home-court advantage in a weak East had injuries been avoided. Carlisle is also aware of the turmoil in Toronto. "It's unfortunate when egos and politics are put ahead of the two most important things in this league -- players and winning," </div> best part of the article. This is all pending O'neill isn't fired, is it not? I mean he has one year left on his contract, and he shoudl not be blamed for the teams poor play. I hardly knew that Richard Peddie had to do with the non-resigning of Rafer. who's fault is it that the Raptors are inthe psot they are in now? GG an dPeddie. I hope our new GM does not fire him. But I do hope he shakesthing supa nd revitalizes are team.
Raps set sights on new GM <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The job has been open for less than a week, the interim Raptor general manager has yet to even see the team play or get to Toronto to meet with upper management yet there is movement on the search to replace Glen Grunwald. Jack McCloskey, who took over last Thursday when the team decided not to renew Grunwald's contract, said he's already got something of a short list of potential candidates. "I don't want to hurry just for completion's sake (but) I've got a couple of people in mind who would be great," McCloskey said in a telephone interview yesterday.</div>
