Only one NBA franchise, the Phoenix Suns, is currently on the market. Owner Jerry Colangelo is looking to sell a minority share of the franchise to an investor who would have the right to buy the remainder of the team in several years. It is not known whether Jordan has held any discussions with Colangelo about the Suns. Colangelo was not available for comment Wednesday, Suns spokeswoman Julie Fie said. </div> Full Article ------------ http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-s...ov=ap&type=lgns How would Suns fans feel about MJ as a part-owner?
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Dale Jensen, a minority owner of the Suns, might be willing to increase his stake in the team to ensure that a local figure has some say in the team's future whenever the team is sold. The software magnate, who owns 3 percent of the Suns and about 25 percent of MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks, told the East Valley Tribune that he wants to make sure the Suns are considered a community asset. Still, Jensen has no interest in running the team. Chairman Jerry Colangelo declined to comment on the sale process, the Tribune reported. </div> That's off of the Suns' front page on ESPN.com -- he just wants more say, not necessarily to buy the team outright. I don't really want Magic or Michael buying the Suns, why should a Laker or Bull own the Suns? Suns' fans deserve a Suns' owner... besides both just want to own a team to say they own an NBA team -- Jordan ruins everything he touches (off the court), and both will just overshadow the Suns, the same way Gretzky has done with the Coyotes. Even though I give the Colangelo's a lot of beef, I'd rather they stay in charge... but seeing as that's not going to happen, I'd rather an owner like Mark Cuban come along, somebody who knows he doesn't know basketball. Jordan and Magic are gonna dismantle the Suns and make it THEIR team... I know I don't want that!
Of all people, I know Jerry Colangelo would not let anybody ever ruin the Suns. That's why he wants to sell only a part of the team right now, so that when he leaves, he's sure that he leaves the team in the right hands.
Refresh my memory... is this a silent partner deal or will the buyer have the option of running the team. I thought I had read colangelo talking about bringing in a minority partner. But I guess that's what Jordan was when he wrought hell in washington. I would hate to see him tear apart the only team I care about... talk about a heart breaker. Anybody here anything new about Barkley's intentions? The techy boy sounds good... maybe he could bring Barkley in as GM (Barkley has said he would want to be either GM or owner... and I think he has enough Suns credentials). My other concern is if this sale goes down before the draft and the trade season. I'd like the new owners to be able to take a running start. How about Cabarkapa saying he wants to return to the Serbian national team this summer instead of working for the team like Lampe and Barbosa will be doing... that kinda bites. He'll never get with the program this way... trade city.
If Zarko wants to play he needs to stay here. What's he gonna do in Serbia? Shoot jumpers all day. He needs to stay and lift weights if he wants to contribute next year.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting panfolk:</div><div class="quote_post">Refresh my memory... is this a silent partner deal or will the buyer have the option of running the team.</div> Well Jerry wants somebody to buy a chunck of his shares in the Suns, and in a few years TAKE OVER. Colangelo is planning to drop the rest of his Suns' shares due to him getting older and he wants his family to end up with his money after he dies, not the government. His family gains a lot from this, but I'm still sad to see the Colangelo era come to an end, I give them a lot of crap but Jerry's been a great owner and Bryan isn't a complete idiot when it comes to GM... it could be worse I'd bash on Zarko too, but I can imagine it's hard to come from another country, so I'll give him this summer to go back home, play for a team he's comfortable with, and hopefully come back with a good mind-set. I do hope he bulks up, and learns our system better... but a lot of foreign players have ties to their old team, so it's not like we're the only one losing a player. Besides he'll be tired of it in a few years like most of 'em have done and just stay in America working out with his team.
Hey Scorbutic, is this a suns fan site? Scorbutic is a weird screen name I heard of this guy screen name Scorbutic I just didn't think people used it. I mean the name sounds cool but it's cancer or something I really forgot [Edit]I'm a retard I just noticed what I said. Just call me Retard
Hope no part of the Suns gonna end up owned by MJ or Majic or anybody who wants to own an NBA team...Agree with Scorbutic 100%!

Well, I think the originla post in this thread is old news. The team has been sold already to Robert Sarver, and the people of Phoenix couldn't be happier, only if Jerry would've kept the team himself. Sarver has made some great moves with the help of Brian C. and they've built a championship-caliber team. Plus Sarver is at all Suns games (and the All Star weekend), being an energetic fan, very similar to Mark Cuban, but without being obnoxious. I personally think Jerry made a wise decision selling the team to Sarver.
