<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">He might have had his Phil of NBA By Howard Beck Staff Writer The time will come soon for Phil Jackson to sift through his collection of rings and choose one to wear from mid-April to mid-June -- or at least until the day when the Lakers' playoff charge ends, and Jackson slides into career limbo. It's a Jackson tradition to slip on one of his nine championship rings for the postseason to remind everyone of the mission, which in this case includes the personal goal of breaking a tie with Red Auerbach for most championships by an NBA coach.</div> Full Article =========== http://www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413,20...2063031,00.html
I'm thinking Byron Scott would definitely be up there and possibly Doc Rivers. Maybe Jim O' Brien also, but, not likely.
I think there was a thread on Rick Fox retiring this season, and shaq still has two years left inhis contract soi don't think he will leave.
I would think that byron scott would be the font runner for the head coach of the lakers if phil leaves because he is a former laker and would probable get kobe to remain a laker because him and kobe were best of freinds when scott played for the lakers but i dont think phil would leave his contract negotiations are on hold but if the lakers win the title i see a real big pay day for phil
i like Mike Fratello, he has a close relationship with Kobe. Steve Lavin from UCLA is always a throwup, but all in all Fratello is my man for Coach next season
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Byron Scott </div>Would you guys really want Byron Scott? Even after he lost the respect of the Nets players? The guy is an overrated coach IMO and wouldn't fit in well here.
^ Byron Scott loves L.A. He was a part of the Showtime Era. He has a ton of heart for the fans of Los Angeles. I think it would be a great fit. Maybe he didn't get along with his New Jersey players, but maybe a change of scenery would be the best for him.
I don't question his love of the game or the fans, its just his coaching. Maybe I have just been listening to too many basketball junkies on the radio but he had that Nets team playing like a medicore team.

I've heard that Kobe has a good relationship with Scott, and because everyone says Shaq's such a likeable guy I'm assuming he does too. If anyone was going to replace Jackson at the end of this season, I'd like it to be Byron Scott.
mike fratello has a better relationship with coach in the mentor/player sense. Kobe respect mike to the fullest extent, and they are great friends. If phil jackson isnt coach next season, shaq and kobe will be the coaches, no new guy is going to tell these guys what to do. They are already established veterans (jordan with doug collins, if you really think doug was the coach, your smoking something...jordan was the leader on the bench, on the court, and in the business aspect)

(Depending on how long their extensive contracts may look like)
