Grant had hoped to play when the Lakers host Memphis on Friday night, but his pain was so bad that he no longer foresees a return during the regular season.</div>

    Horance Grant Out for Season/Playoffs

Horace Grant will not play the rest of the season or the playoffs, a blow to the Lakers' front-court depth.

Jackson met with Grant before the game and told him to get surgery on the tear in his hip as soon as possible.

A veteran of the triangle offense and of 13 NBA postseasons, Grant had hoped to return for a handful of regular-season games, then use the airy playoff schedule to baby his hip into June.

When the pain did not subside over the past six weeks, Grant was forced to give up on the notion of participating in the postseason</div>

I've been impressed by what Brian Cook has done with his PT, so hopefully he can fill in well for the Lakers in the absence of Grant.

I certainly won't miss his presence on the roster for the postseason. I always thought it was quite stupid how the Lakers let Robert Horry go just to have Horace you-can't-count-how-many-times-I-should-have-retired-on-one-hand Grant take his place.

Old man horace better just sit for the playoffs. Even if he were healthy, I rather see cook playing in the playoffs than him

Thats too bad. He really played well for us this year.
The silver lining has got to be the fact that Cook will hopefully get a chance for a few minutes during the playoffs if he gets on the roster.

Til this day I'm still glad we let Horry go. 5 million for a guy who doesn't even put his hands up on defense most of the time, and shot 1-30 or something in the playoffs last year behind the 3 point line..

Horry was not a guy that could play more than 25+ minutes/game. He hasn't been for years. Out of necessity LA overplayed him last year despite having him come off the bench in past seasons, and it took its toll on him. Besides, I'm not arguing that he's still a good player, but he's still far and away better than Horace Grant.

Trust me you guys might miss him. He was good insurance off the bench just incase those forwards off the bench like a cook cant handle the pressure of a big moment (say a game 7 or something).

I remember last year the Spurs were able to plugin Kevin Willis every now in then for a game or 2.And he found the fountain of youth in his game during the playoffs. Its good to have those veteran guys (that you might think are washed up during the regular season) as insurance. They have been thru so many wars over their career (especially someone like Horace) you can throw them in any situation. And they wont be shocked.

^ Horace Grant won't be missed. I myself was fed up with him. I got tired of watching him struggle to run up and down the court like a crippled man. I know Phil Jackson has love for his former players from his championship seasons, but Horace Grant is done as a player in my opinion. Now we can free up some roster spots for Brian Cook and Luke Walton. Younger guys full of youth, and can grab rebounds.
