<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Rudeezy:</div><div class="quote_post">Speaking of Sura, did any of you guys see him miss that lay up on purpose last night so that he could get his 10th rebound and his 3rd triple double in as many games? That was ridiculous. The funny thing is that the League took away that rebound today because that is not the way this game is to be played.</div> I didn't see it, but his triples doubles are helping me in my fantasy league. Did they really take it away? I don't see anything wrong with it, it wasn't like Ricky Davis trying to do it on the opposing teams basket.

These accomplishments are supposed to come natural with hard work, he cheated his way to a triple double IMO.
Its amazing how that one rebound change everything. Instead of being the 1st player since grant hill to have 3 triple doubles in row. He'll just be another player to get 2 in row. I think that his accomplishment will not be thought as highly upon if he had 3 triple doubles. But the thing is 2 triples doubles and 1 one rebound from another one, I think is equally impressive. I remember hearing Jim Barnett say that I Moses Malone use to miss on purpose just to get rebounds, I don't see why Sura can't do the same thing. I didn't see the end but did the Nets players just let him drive to the hoop or was on it like a fast break, type situation. I think if the Nets players just allowed him to drive through and miss a shot and not try to get a rebound, that would be different. Then I think he cheated because the opposing team let him do it.
I believe it was a fast break. The game was already over with the Hawks up by 22. There was no need to do it.
If it was on fast break, I think he earned it. I remember when the nets fouled intentionally so they could stop the Pistons streak of holding oppenents under 70. If they take away the rebound they should take away those 2 points that the nets scored, beause in a way those situations are similar, both games were over already, there was no way the nets were fouling becuase they thought they could make a 20 point comeback with 10 seconds left in the game.
Maybe if Sura didn't make it so obvious that he missed the lay up on purpose the league wouldn't have taken it away.
Here is the article at nba.com. The League actually made the right move: <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The National Basketball Association today disallowed a missed field goal attempt and ensuing rebound which gave Atlanta Hawk guard Bob Sura a statistical "triple-double" in the Hawks' 129-107 victory over the New Jersey Nets on April 12. In the closing seconds of that game, Sura intentionally missed a layup and grabbed the rebound. The NBA rule book states that "A field goal attempt is a player's attempt to shoot the ball into the basket for a field goal." The league ruled that Sura did not attempt a field goal, and therefore there was no rebound. </div> http://www.nba.com/news/sura_040413.html
Kinda odd it wasn't a field go attempt when it looked like he shot it against the rim and he grabbed it for a rebound.
He didn't even shoot it, he almost pushed the ball up against the rim. Whatever the case, he didn't attempt to make it and it was obvious by his reaction. The League made the right move.
Nevertheless still gotta credit the man with 3 good performances in a row. Look forward to seeing him do it again next year. Heh..

I'm glad Sura is doing well even though I absolutely dreaded him as a Warrior. Sure the guy looked good with those handles and quickness but he was out of control. He turned the ball over and missed the stupidest layups at times. Cliff is the bigger impact player because of the defense and the Veteran leadership. If the guy isn't a team Captain its a travesty.

Sura's rebounding numbers may have been higher, but his leadership has really made this team win more games then they were supposed to. I think there was an article about this I read, but can't remember. After reading that I realized how much influence he has had on this team along with Avery. Sura may put up better numbers and is younger, but the team in the future is better off with Robinson.
I think any player that would intentionally screw up a layup for their own benefit belongs in the class of players like Ricky Davis. Echh. No thanks. BTW do you see much better the cavs were doing once they were able to get some veteran leadership on that team? They had a team full of young athletic rookies that couldn't play together as a team.
