<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Garnett just picked up a significant endorsement as this season's NBA Most Valuable Player from an unexpected source: Spurs coach Gregg Popovich.

Considering Spurs power forward Tim Duncan is the reigning two-time MVP, that is a powerful ally for Garnett to have.

Citing the fact Garnett's Timberwolves have the best record in the Western Conference and he has not missed a game this season, Popovich said Minnesota's perennial All-Star, runner-up to Duncan in the MVP voting last season, "deserves that recognition."

"I think Kevin Garnett's had an MVP season, considering everything that goes into being MVP," Popovich said. "Kevin's done a great job and deserves that recognition this year. I think Timmy's been one of the top players in the league, but you look at Kevin's numbers and what his team has done and the fact he hasn't missed any games, and all those sorts of things make him a pretty darn good choice."

Ouch. I mean, a coach can feel that way, and that's one thing. But to actually say it when your own star player is a top candidate, that really hurts. It not only hurts Duncan's already slim chances of threepeating, but probably hurts Duncan's feelings as well, unless Duncan told this to Pop.

Its one thing if Duncan endorsed KG, but for his coach to do it is another thing altogether.

Pop makes plenty of these type of statements. It's no different to him telling the Spurs fans not to boo Kobe Bryant all because he wants him in San Antonio next year. Somehow I doubt Tim's feelings are hurt about this. Pop knows who the better player is, he knows who can lead teams to championships. thats all that matters.

Garnett is the MVP. No doubt. Popovich knows that, and Duncan too. I?m sure it won?t hurt Duncan, he?s too inteligent for that,

This coming from a coach who sees TD in practice and games so when he says that KG is MVP, then that would count for something really really big.

Popavich is correct in supporting garnett for mvp garnett beats tim duncan in points Garnett-24.2 Duncan-22.3 he beats tim duncan in rebounds garnett-13.9 duncan-12.4 and in assists garnett-5 duncan-3.4 the blocks are pretty even garnett 2.17 duncan-2.68 and they both shoot roughly 50 % as garnett shoots .499 and duncan shoots .501 then garnett wins the free throw matchup as he shoots .791% and duncan shoots.599% and even though they both dont shoot many threes garnett even wins that as he shoots .256 from beyound the arc and duncan shoots .167 and then garnett averages more minutes as well as garnett is averaging 39.4 and duncan shoots 36.6 then garnetts team has also beat the spurs in the division standings and taken the first seed in the west
