I hope this isn't a violation of site rules, but I've done this in the past and thought we could try it here. I'm putting forth a thread taking odd-based Signature bets. This is all in good sportsmanship, which is why no money or other things will change hands. The bet is simple: Lose your bet, Lose your Signature for a week. It will be replaced with something like this: (This is only an example of something someone betting on Indy would have to sport as an avatar for a week, were he/she to lose the bet) Get it. It's all in good fun. Here is what I'm putting forth for bets: Sweep* 4-1 - 1 week avatar loss 4-2 - 1 week avatar loss Seven Game Special** (Obviously you'd also call your Team-to-Win, along with the above # of games in the series scenario you chose) I'm a Celtics fan and we are the heavy underdog this series. Given that it's a 1 vs 8 seed, I have the following stipulations: * If you call the sweep, you lose your avatar for 2 weeks. It's steep, but your showing us no respect in doggin' our Celts. If somehow we get any bets for a Celtics sweep, we'll have to come up with an appropriate prize, along with finding the bet placer some good psychiatric help. . **If you go against us, but show respect by calling the Seven Game Special, then you will not lose your avatar at all. You've risked telling the world you see the potential in our team that we do. In our house, that's worth something. So feel free to make your calls and anyone interested in possible designing the avatars, please contact me with your samples. Please remember site rules when designing signatures and please lets try to keep them tasteful. Remember to call them correctly, It's the team your taking and then the number of games, (i.e. - Celtics in the Seven Game Special) By the this Saturday, we'll have signatures ready to view for those willing to go out on a line and call thier shot. Good luck.
Quick Question: If I bet the Pacers over the Celtics in 5 games but in reality it takes 6 games. Do I lose my avatar for a week?
Clarification: Sorry, I wrote so much that I forgot the rule regarding bets. All bets are AS WRITTEN. This is high stakes parlor folks. The meek should stay on the sidelines. In other words, If you bet your team, but don't get the number of games right, you still lose your avatar if: The number of actual total games played is larger than the total games wagered in your bet. In otherwords, if the series goes longer than you called it for, it will hurt you. If you over bet and your team wins in less games than you call, then there is no penalty. Sorry for the omission. Are we clear on the rules now? Thanks
well it's a great idea playa. Outstanding. I love participatin' in these types things..and bein' a lifelong Bulls and Hawks fan I have a natural inclination of betting against the Celts

I'm gonna hope Paul Pierce comes to the party and call the Celtics in six games, 4-2. PS: Happy B'day fella
I love this idea and I really like Indy's chances over Boston this year. Im going to take Indy over Boston 4-2. I think they have a chance of winning 4-1 however its just to for me to think the Celtics won't win the games in Boston. So my official bet: Indy over Boston 4-2

This is like sbzhoops.com's betting table. Is that where you got your idea? They do crazy ish there, tough. Out, Prime
I'm not sure what site that was you referenced, but I've never heard of it. Most of the stuff I present are things that we've done at FH in the past years. None of these things are original ideas, nor should they be taken for such. I'm not interested in taking credit for the idea, because it's a hybrid of several games. Most of the time I pick and choose the things that I know worked in certain games and have worked them into a different concept. This variation is my creation, but it's a product made up of many different parents and concepts, not my own. I'd credit someone, but most of these things are impossible to properly credit.
I'm not worried about what you believe is the sucker bet Seven Game Special. I know there's potential for abuse, but on a message board environment, what you say is easily documented for use against you. If you don't believe in your bet, but make it because it's "the safe bet", it will show in the remarks you have made, and will make when talking about the series. If you're taking Indy in 7 but running your mouth that the Celtics suck and this will be an easy series, then......let's just say people will put 2 and 2 together. Honor is something I hold highly and I expect that people are like me and try to present themselves as acurately as they can, in terms of character. Therefore, most honorable fans will make a bet based on what they really feel. There's no high stakes involved, so there's no reason to play the odds.
<strike>Dude I was just bringing up that point. F all the east teams fool. I'd never be stupid enough to bet for any east team. I was just bringing up that point. </strike> Totally uncalled for. If you can't make a worthwhile post on the subject, then please don't make it. Also, cool it with the personal attacks. -Hunter

I think the Celtics might have a chance of winning but the Pacers will probably win it. So I bet the series go to 6 games and Indy wins the series by 4-2.
Post #6 contains "the Book" which will be continually updated as new bets come in. As of this post, I believe everyones bets have been entered. Thanks to those who are already playing and hopefully there will be more. Tip off for this Series is Saturday, not Sunday as I originally thought, so all bets must be made prior to the first games Tip-off. After that, no others will be taken and you'll have to wait until the second round. Thanks.

My apologies: I used the wrong word when creating this thread. I inadvertently and repeatedly refered to Signatures as Avatars. Sasha, who's volunteered to design them for us, brought this to my attention when trying to figure out how to fit what I wanted into an 80x80 space. I hope that the example I posted had everyone on the right track in terms of what I was talking about, but anyone who wishes to withdraw thier bet because of this mistake is more than welcome to. Sorry.
