<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Orlando Magic are willing to trade Tracy McGrady in the offseason unless the NBA's scoring champion tells them he wants to stick around after next year. Magic general manager John Weisbrod said Wednesday he wants McGrady to stay, but wants his star to make a decision by July 1 because "I have no intention of starting next season with an `I don't know."' Weisbrod, who took over as Orlando's GM last month, said if he knows McGrady won't be back after next season, trading him would be the best move for the team.</div> Full Story
If I were the Magic I would kill to keep McGrady. If he doesn;t want to stay give him more money or do anything in my power to make him happy to were he'll stay. But That's just me.
I think the only way to make T-Mac happy and willing to stay, is to give him a better supporting cast. But they can't sign any new players before the 14 July and that's after T-Mac's deadline. So the draft is essential to prove T-Mac that Orlando is willing and able to provide him with better teammates. If they fail T-Mac would likely say no. I don't like this "say yes until 1. July or you're traded" thing, I think it's a bad idea. If they really want to build around him as the article states, they should really try to build a better team around T-Mac and give him some love or whatever he wants. Try to make his "work" as enjoyable as possible and then they don't have the problem of T-Mac opting out after next season. But imho what Weisbrod did is just the wrong signal. Edit: I just wanted to find out when the teams can begin with trading? Is it the same date as they can begin signing free agents (14. July)?
Hmm intresting topic,I think T-Mac has said before that he wants to stay but I have a feeling that he'll end up leaving.
It will all depend on the draft , is before July 1st right? Anyways , he can sign an extension too right? I would wait until trading deadline next season , if team is doing bad and he says where he wants to go and stuff..then trade him .. well if draft is before July 1st then Okafor would be our best pick , (since T-Mac said that would be the best) but I really think we should see how the season start..I'm sure if we start good and Okafor is on fire on the defensive/offensive game , I mean would T-Mac want to leave if we have a 5+ winning streak? Let T-Mac decide before trading deadline , if he decides to stay he can sign an extension or something like that right?
It's not looking good for us Magic fans. Another star leaves the city of Orlando. I feel there are only 2 people(That are realistically available) that would make up the loss of T-Mac: Kobe and Iverson. Anyone else and I could see the franchise moving elsewhere. If this happens, then I'll probably go look for another team to root for.LOL Probably wherever T-Mac ends up. Hopefully this doesn't happen. Right now, I'd say it's about 65-35 this won't happen. But who would've though Shaq would leave us. This feels like deja vu.LOL

So it really depends on what will happen on the draft day. (Perhaps also on what will happen on the Bobcats expansion draft, you never know.) You're second point (T-Mac should decide before the trading deadlind) is exactly what I would do but that's not what Weisbrod wants. And I can understand him. And, well, I can understand him. He wants to be sure that T-Mac is part of our future and that he can actually plan with him and build a team around him. But if T-Mac was then leaving in the middle of that process, Weisbrod would have to start all over again.
You have to give him at least until Christmas to make the decision. See how we are playing after a month and a half. If we're sucking, then trade him. I liked the end part of it, how it was talking about Tmac said that if he leaves that he would like to give us something back(not pulling another Shaq)

If Orlando can get a great player in return, I'd say trade McGrady. He's slowly turning into an Allen Iverson- Great player on the court, terrible attitude. His talkback to the media is only a turn off as well. Theres countless episodes where he's made unnecessary comments regarding his teammates. They have a locker room for those issues.
How about Trade him for two guys that don't equal his talent, but that build a team... Stars Stars Stars.. You can't have 3425 stars.. And If we start building a team that can get it done.. We could attract this "Star" if McGrady is traded.. Orlando just threw together a couple people that didnt work.. Lue was good to get, but they used him in the wrong way.. Howard just clogged up Gooden's production.. And they really did not surround T-Mac with the proper team.... People like Andre Miller was a free agent... Just makes so much sense to me why T-Mac is acting liket his..
