It will be interesting to see how the Celtics use him the playoffs. They are obviously trying to exploit the Pacers achilles heal at PG. The PG trio of Atkins, Banks, and Barros is going to cause a lot of problems for Indy in this matchup. I see the Celtics having Barros in near the end of quarters because of his veteran leadership, composure, and automatic ability to make free throws.
Another fine move by Danny Ainge. If they are trying to exploit Indiana's lack of a point guard position then I think the mission failed miserably. I know Dana Barros is a good shooter but this guy is a 37 year old undersized shooting guard. I'm sorry Shape but I don't see Barros causing any problems for Indy. Make him drive the ball and don't give him an outside shot. See if he can finish over JO (which I don't think he can) when he gets to the paint. BTW I always thought Dell Curry had the quickest release in the game but that guy is 50 years old now.
Barros was brought in to achieve consistancy and floor movement. NOT as some last minute secret weapon against Indy. The long and short of it is that Banks is still erradic in his play and we need a better, team-oriented pg backing up Chucky Atkins. Don't expect Barros to be a World-beater, it's not his role. However, he understands perfectly what his role is, and that is to get the ball moving on the floor and get it to open men. His experience is what he's here for, not his ability to beat teams with big shots. He's probably past those days, but he's still tangible for what we need him for and frankly, he's a better option than Banks is right now. I actually reminded my bretheren on the C's chat board that I called this one way back when they brought him in as a bench coach.
I don't see this as a big move at all, except the fact that it probably means less playing time for Banks. I've really liked Banks play lately, but I he commits to many turnovers right now to be really effective against a good defensive team in the postseason. That is why the acquisition of Atkins has helped out the team a lot more than most people think. Since Atkins has joined the team Pierce's turnovers per game have gone down dramatically (he finished with the most turnovers, but was only third in turnovers per game, behind AI and Arenas). I don't think Barros will be able to play very effectively, but he can probabbly play as Shape said, the last few minutes of quarters and give the team a little spark.
