<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">OAKLAND - Maybe Eric Musselman doesn't want to coach the Warriors next season.

Given an opportunity to state publicly that he would like to return for the third and final year of his contract, Musselman declined -- twice. When asked before Wednesday's season-finale against the Kings -- a 97-91 win -- if he wanted to come back, he changed the subject.

"The only thing I'm concerned with is tonight's basketball game," he said.

After the game, Musselman was once again asked if he wanted to return to coach the Warriors next season.

"Again, there's really no use talking about that," a teary-eyed Musselman said. "It's not my decision right now. I love to coach basketball ... so."</div>

Not a good sign if Muss doesn't want to come back. Maybe he already knows he is finished with the Warriors, he will truely be missed.

It's not matter of Muss wanting to come back, it's that he doesn't have backing by the GM anymore.

If the management wants Musselman back, Muss will be back(i think that is what his quotes are saying). Muss just cares about winning games and coaching. And if you looked at it closely, there really aren't too many reasons why Muss would be jumping too quick for an extention. The management didn't seem too happy with him, with his sub patterns. And the management and him seem to be go going in different directions. I bet Musselman knows there are most likely better situations out there for him where the management will be behind him and give him support. But if the Warriors want to keep him then i have very little doubt that Musselman will not coach the best he can. That's all he knows, from a tod to now, it's all been about coaching, so i don't think he'd let the players down and not coach as hard has he has been his whole life, esecially the last two years.

What befuddles me is that they wrote Musselman doesn't want to be back in Oakland next year. That is not very good journalism in my mind(even though I don't know much about journalism, but that statement doesn't seem to be correct what so ever). He never said anything like that. I hope that statement won't be part of the reason why the management will let Muss go. Because i doubt it's true, and he never said anything like that. At least not anything in print, especially from the article.

And this statement: "There are suggestions that that approach has rankled St. Jean and Mullin, both of whom are said to like the Warriors' young pieces." isn't true because i remember reading something on ESPN.com about Saint Jean liking Musselman and wanted him to stay. I don't know anything about Mullin, but i am almost 100% sure that Saint wants Muss back. And Dunleavy started most games that he was able to, except for the times he was injured and still hobbled with an injury.

And then he'll write how Pietrus helped the team win when he played(which i agree with), but he doesn't do the same for Cheaney or Cliff whom he both said were reasons why people want Muss out because he plays the vets too much. Gosh i remember people getting upset when he wasn't playing Cardinal enough. People just never seem to be happy.

The scarey part to me, is that Cohan is SO FAR away from the team he probably has no clue what goes on. So i am hoping he doesn't use these lame articles to make decisions.

And that's why I'm boycotting anything that Cohan profits from. (Including TV commercials)

By the way I think the next coach will be an NBA Player and one who has previously coached an NBA team. This way you get the rookies and vets to respect you because you played in the NBA and you have a identifiable system.

I hope Mussleman is back. 2 years is an awfully quick time to be expected to take a 20-62 team to the playoffs. Especially when you let go or trade away your 2 best players, and your starting 5 NEVER played 1 full game together.

I think it was a bit of self promotion though.

I would not be against Rick Barry, but if we are going to let Muss go, I would prefer an established and successful coach like Rudy T, Larry B, or Phil J.

I would like to see Rick Barry be the coach. He has a huge ego and is a big talker and I would be interested to see if he could get the job done. He will probably never get a job because he was/is such a jerk.

"By the way I think the next coach will be an NBA Player and one who has previously coached an NBA team. This way you get the rookies and vets to respect you because you played in the NBA and you have a identifiable system."

Byron Scott and Doc Rivers should be the top choices i think, if they let Muss go. And they fit that description the best. Maybe even Mo Cheeks could be a possiblity depending on what happens in Portland.

But it's hard to believe Musselman is that bad of a coach if Speedy Claxton is saying, that the Warriors had "one of the best locker rooms" in the league and compared it to San Antonio's during its championship season of 2002-03.

And Claxton also said, "They gotta keep this team together," Claxton said. "Got to."

I say just listen to the man with the championship ring on his finger. Keep this group of players together.(http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctime...ors/8446081.htm)

I have heard reports that Byron Scott would be the Lakers new head coach if Jackson leaves. I think he is overrated personally.

I think Byron Scott is over rated too. Didnt they go on some huge winning streak with the interim coach? Anyone could coach that team to success. Jason Kidd is the only reason they are winning. THE ONLY.

Yes, Byron Scott lost the respect of his players because his coaching strategies, or lack there of. Once he got fired they went on a huge winning streak.

Byron Scott went to the finals in back to back years. I know Jason Kidd is a good player and all, and you need a good team to go that far. But you can't dismiss that Byron was a pretty good coach. He got that team to play good defense and i think he provided very good championship experience to that team, especially for playoff time. Also Byron learned a lot from Pat Riley, so he definitly knows a couple of things and knows a couple tricks of the trade for coaching in the NBA. I think it will be very interesting to see what the Nets do in the playoffs without Byron. Also i thought i heard there was some negative things going around the new coach lately in New Jersey. That just tells you how much tough love you get when you coach in the NBA, i think Rick Carisle is a good example of that.

However if the Warriors didn't like Musselman's demanding ways, i have doubt they'll like Byron Scott.

Jason Kidd turned that team around. They would not have went anywhere without him. They are just a medicore team without. He was their key to success. I know Byron had something to do with it as well, but people give him too much credit.

I really hope the Warriors keep Musselman. When I look at the past coaches they've had, I don't see any coach they could bring in who will be more successful than Musselman. They've tried the ex-player who was a successful coach in Cowens, so I don't see how Rudy T would be more successful, especially since they have similar styles. They've tried the assistant coach think in Winters. They've tried the laid back guy in Saint. They've tried the task master in Carlisimo.

Now its true that Murphy and Richardson may be the only guys on the Warriors when they had a coach besides Musselman (you can throw in Damp or Foyle if either resigns), but that's not the point. The point is that Cohan and his brain trust seem to think that they are going to find a perfect coach. But there are no perfect coaches. GMs are always going to push for the coach to play the young guys more. Coaches are always going to put the vets in because they want to win games. Players sitting on the bench are always going to complain about how many minutes they get. Players getting minutes will always complain about not getting enough shots.

I don't see any problems with Musselman that can't be fixed. His shaky relationship with Dunleavy can be fixed just like his relationship with Richardson was fixed. They aren't going to have any problems with Cheaney taking minutes from Pietrus, because Cheaney most likely won't be resigned. Whoever plays center is going to get big minutes, whether that be Damp, Foyle, or someone else, so that won't be a problem.

There's a reason why you always see bad teams continually changing coaches and GMs, but you don't see good teams doing it. Winning games is the cure for all little problems between players, coaches, and GMs. When teams are always losing games, that's when players start to bicker, coaches dig their heels in, and GMs look to make a change before the owner decides to ship the GM out. Cohan and Rowell need to realize that most of the problems the Warriors have will be solved by winning and teams can't win if there is no stability in the locker room or the front office. Right now the locker room chemistry is great. Last year there were a ton of chemistry problems that were bubbling under the surface. I hope Rowell and Cohan recognize that is a solid foundation to build on.

However, if they do bring in a new coach, I think Rudy T is a very interesting choice. The reason being that for whatever reason the Warriors will never give Rick Barry a shot at head coach, but I could see them bringing him in as an assistant if the head coach wanted him. Barry and Rudy T were teammates at Houston at the end of Rudy's playing career. I don't know what their relationship was like, but if there was any coach who could deal with Barry, I think it would be Rudy.

^^couldn't have said it any better. I definintly agree with you, this franchise can't seem to get any stabilty any sense coherance that will help this team succeed and finally make the playoffs. If anything the warriors should keep Muss for a sense of stability. Last year was unfortunate that they had to scrap the team since gilbert left, now it seems like going to do the same this year, despite success. I don't understand why they would do this when this is the first time this team has been even close to competing for the playoffs.

Also give some credit to Kerry Kittles. That guy can run a fastbreak play like no other. He's like a second point guard on that team and the only real guy who can hit it from deep.
