Team MVP -- Kobe, defying the negativity surrounding him, and playing with everything he has, and Gary Payton for playing all of 82 games and keeping the team together through good and bad times Team MIP -- Kareem Rush. He's earned his minutes nicely throughout the season, and has found his left-handed jumpshot. Team ROY -- Luke Walton with his dazzling display of passes, and not afraid to shoot the open shot. Team Leader -- Vocally: Gary Payton and Karl Malone On the court: Kobe/Shaq Best Offensive Player -- Kobe Bryant by a longshot. Best Defensive Player -- Kobe Bryant. When he lifts his shorts to begin defending his opponent, he can stick to someone like glue and never fall apart. Best Player Off The Bench -- It would have to be a tie between Kareem and Slava. Kareem with his ability to have confidence in his left-handed shot, and never afraid to shoot when open, and Slava's ability to pound the boards, and also time after time, shoots his jumpshot. Best Dunk of the Year -- There were so many dunks this year, but I'd have to go with Shaq dunking over Yao. Best Pass of the Year -- Walton going through his legs at Orlando as the Lakers rallied from a huge deficit to win. Best Play of the Year -- I have two. I'd first have to go with Kobe Bryant coming from Denver, suiting up in the second quarter to play, and later hitting the game winning shot. And the second one would be Kobe's off-balance three to send the game into OT at Portland last week, and his turnaround 3 pointer over Patterson to win with a second left. Best Game of the Year -- No question the Sacramento game in which we won 115-91. The Lakers dominated the Kings in every category....even the LOOSE balls!
