What is his contract situation? I've heard they have an option on him for next year, but I've also heard his contract is up and he becomes a free agent. Can someone clarify what the situation is?

with absolute certainty, i can tell u the cavaliers have a TEAM option on booz this off season. This means that the cavs can decide if they want to let him become a free agent (which obviously they wont), or honor the final year of his very undersized contract. Now, the proper thing for the cavaliers to do right now is get a deal done this offseason with carlos while no1 else is able to throw money at him. if we allow him to get out on the free agent market, we risk either losing him or paying him more than he is worth to keep him. my guess is that we will try to get his deal done very shortly following the nba draft in june. but there is a 100% chance of carlos playin in cleveland at least for next season. hope that helps.

Thanks. IMO Boozer should be first priority this offseason, lock him up for the next 5-7 years then go from there.

Carlos Boozer and LeBron are the Cavs future McInnis is there 3rd option and Boozer should be resigned, he does all of the dirty work for the cavs downlow. Boozer is a future allstar and the biggest steal ever in the draft exceptions to John Stockton. Boozer will be resigned according to some of the articles ive read when i was a poster at GundArena.com.

My, bad i can't believe i forgot Michael Jordan...damn im stupid... Man MJ was so good i would consider him a steal if he was 1st pick. Anyways back to Boozer, i think Boozer should of been an allstar this year instead of Kenyon Martin. no disrespect to Kmart.

Boozer needs to improve his defense to be considered an all star. The rest of his game is pretty much there, which is phenominal for a second year player drafted in the second round. We all hope a deal is stitched up this summer for the next 5 or so years.

This is the latest according to Joe Gabriele!!

The Cavaliers have a few contract issues to iron out before training camp opens. Super sophomore, Carlos Boozer proved that he?s worth his weight in gold and Jeff McInnis showed that he was just what the doctor ordered. Here?s a quick look at the contract status of some of the Cavaliers: Carlos Boozer
Cleveland has two ways to get C-Booz to sign on the line which is dotted. One way is to sign Boozer this summer. The contract would be required to be the average salary exception for a maximum of six years with 12.5 percent increases. The second calls for the Cavaliers to exercise their option on his third year. Booz would then qualify as a Bird Exception following the 2004-05 season. At that point Cleveland could sign him to a seven year deal exceeding the average salary exception.
The Cavaliers don?t have any intentions of toying with Boozer and have taken care of the powerful forward right from the start. Before he played a game for Cleveland, the front office inked him to a contract larger than a second rounder dictates and guaranteed it for two years, a league rarity. Overall, the Cavaliers ultimate desire is to make both sides totally happy even if it means paying him more money over the life of the longest contract possible that Carlos is satisfied with.

If I'm Carlos, I let the Cavs exercise their team option for the third year at 695,000....There's a danger in that such as injuries and the like. But at least that would give him the option of going shoping. The league MLE for 6 years just isn"t enough money, and thats all the cavs can offer this summer............Tank

The following is a quote from Paxon out of the Cleveland Free Times!!

A second-round steal in the 2002 draft, Boozer finished fifth in the league in rebounding this season while averaging 15 points per game. The Cavaliers have an option on him for next year. ?If we didn't pick up his option this year, I should be fired.? Paxson also notes that because of the type of contract Boozer signed, if the Cavs want to guarantee keeping him long-term, they need to wait until after next season to lock him up ? which they intend to do.

    In case anyone missed it.................Tank

Boozer is an excellant player who works hard in every game, he still can improve and the Cavaliers must resign him. Boozer and James right now are the 2 players the Cavaliers can really build around.

Boozer will get his money because he deserves it. I don't know if Pax wants to take that chance and make him unrestrictic next season to get a taste of free agency. Better safe than sorry.

I wouldn't call him the second best player. If you take him or LeBron out of the Cavalier's team, they would suck. While LeBron does the flashy stuff, Boozer does the rest, grabbing most of the boards, scoring a lot, etc. Is just as important as LeBron to the team, if not more, so yes, they do have to keep him.
