    Finally, I get some vindication:

    http://www.nba.com/pacers/

For all the lousy things I've said about the league in the past few days, they finally did what they were supposed to and not let playoff circumstance get in the way of rule enforcement.

Awful. If the NBA wanted to make this playoff series worse they did it right there. But rules are rules even if they are stupid ones. Artest will come back and shut down the entire Celtics squad singlehandedly.

I know it's probably sarcasm, but I just can't help laughing at that one. Thanks!

They must've seen something that I didn't. The altercation I saw had him take about 3 steps onto the court and then go back. He didn't get into the fray, actually wasn't anywhere near it. Did I miss something?

^^Nope. You just saw another reason why to hate on the exec's in the NBA, especially Stu Jackson. This guy has made some horrible decisions this year regarding Shaq and various other players. Artest is just another victim.

Terrible call. He went off the bench only a few steps, players do that all the time when there is a big play or dunk. IMO this is just going to make an already pretty bad series (no offense) even worse, oh well Artest will come back with avengence.

I don't think is sarcasm CourtVision [IMG] anyways , that's just stupid he should've receive an award because he didn't go all the way where the thing was happening anyways , if J has a 30+ pts game and they win you can kiss good bye the playoff serie it'll end 4-0 in Boston.

I agree it is stupid to suspend him for that because he didn't actually involve himself in it, but he should have known better. We've seen many players get suspended for this over the years, and hasn't he been one of them already? I don't think it was necessarily a bad call by Stu Jackson, because it is against the rules and is an automatic suspention anyway. Again, these players should know better than to do this.

Its not like they Need Artest to beat Boston. They're just doing Indiana a favor by resting Arest and he will come back and shut down Paul Pierce.

artest should've known better. hes left the bench so many times already, that rule should've been stuck into his head. yeah its a stupid rule but rules are there to prevent the altercation to get too out of control

The happiest person in the world is Paul Pierce right now.

    Artest is a victim?

He started to sprint out onto the court because he wanted to get into a fight. Then he started to run back. If the fight was next to the bench he would have gotten into it, before he had a chance to run back. He's a top player on his team and he should have known better, bottom line.

    ^^ Couldn't agree more iamme.

I wouldn't be so sure he views this as a great thing. In terms of it providing an advantage towards the teams success, I'm sure he views it as a good thing.

From a personal standpoint, while I'm sure he's glad he doesn't have to worry about Artest trying to pants him tonight, Pierce is a competitor who wants the best out of his opponents. The truest victory is beating your opponent with them having no excuses and I believe Pierce to be the type of person who subscribes to that premise.

So, he probably has mixed feelings about the decision, IMO.

It's a dumb rule which should be clarified better. There wasn't a fight on the court, just some staring. And Artest took a couple steps onto the court, and then went straight back. He didn't do ANYTHING WRONG.

This is one of those rules which they should revise in the off-season.

Yes you did miss something. He didn't take 3 steps, he ran to half court, than flipped a u turn, and ran back hoping the millions of camera there didn't catch him.

The rule is in effect so that there will be no bench clearing brawls.

he broke an explicit rule. he DID do wrong. unless i'm mistaken, players are not allowed to leave the bench during any altercation. doesn't matter if it's just some shoving and it doesn't matter if he doesn't reach the altercation.

how much clearer does it need to be?

This 3 step stuff is really starting to bug me. It's making me wonder if people actually saw the incident or are just repeating the nonsense that Carlisle said to the Indy papers?

Artest RAN almost to half court and as soon as the screaming of the assistant coach standing at the top of the bench nearest the scorers table caught his ears, he tried to slink back to the bench.

There was really nothing to debate in terms of his actions, only whether or not the NBA was actually going to enforce it's rules or look the other way.
