Really? I just heard something about a new coach too about 5 minutes ago during the Phillies/Marlins game. St. Joe's Hawks coach Phil Marteli was on and said something about someone from Philly coaching the Sixers and them going to announce it tomorrow. I hope it's true.

I couldnt be any happier. He's is a defense first type of coach which is good. Now Billy King can start making trades.

Man I cant believe we actually got him. THANK GOD! Lets just hope Allen Iverson can play with him without any problems. [IMG]

    EDIT

    I found a link.

    Sixers hire Jim O'Brien

Welcome to Philly Jim O.

Dammit you guys beat me to it, I was just about to post this lol.

anyways here is what I was about to post:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The Philadelphia 76ers hired Jim O'Brien as coach Tuesday, The Associated Press has learned.

The former Boston Celtics coach replaces Chris Ford, who was promoted from assistant on an interim basis after Randy Ayers was fired on Feb. 10. A source with the team, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the hiring will be announced at a news conference Wednesday.

This is a very good move by the Sixers in my opinion, O'Brien is a good coach and I think having a guy like him will only help them. I don't know how he would mesh with a guy like Allen Iverson, but he did have a good relationship with Antoine Walker, so I'm hoping this will work out as well. Good to see coach O'Brien back as a head coach already, and not taking a season off like some of the coaches have recently.

I am still not convinced and am curious that the player-coach relationship between A.I. and O'Brien won't have some flaws. Anyway, he is a Philadelphia native and should fit right in.

P.S. Like my sig? Not my best work, but it gets the point across.

Defense minded coach on a defense minded team, still does not mean they are good at defense though. The sixers are obviously in that period where they need to build a whole team, not a team around allen iverson. I just hope all works well

I don't understand why the Sixers named a new coach so early. I thought that they maybe would have waited until June or something to have the time to search. It's only been about a week since the RS ended.

cause they want to use offseason to get a better team together.
u should do this in co-op with ur coach. we just had to learn what happens when u search whole offseason 4 a coach

Yeah true I think thats better,so instead off looking for a coach during the offseason we can look for better players.

I wonder if they tried to go after Mo.

    EDIT: Now we know...

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The decision to hire O'Brien also cleared the air on the status of Portland Trail Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks, who was widely speculated as someone the Sixers would pursue. The Sixers did not request permission to speak with Cheeks.</div>

I'm not sure whether to offer my congratulations or my condolences to Philly fans.

This makes East teams happy, because it'll keep Philly out of the running for the duration of OB's stay in Philly.

AI and OB should get along fine, since OB does not chastize players for poor shot selection and he'll probably give AI the green light to shoot all he wants, just like he did with Walker.

PS - Those who think OB's a great defensive coach, better think again, because he wasn't the one responsible for Boston's defense during his tenure there, Dick Harter was.

Just wait until your offense ends up predicated on the 3 point shot and Mark Blount is fronting every post player Philly faces. With an endless array of over the top lob dunks on the 6er's defense and 25% shooting games, this ought to be fun to watch from an outside perspective.

You'll quickly find out that OB isn't nearly the fine acquisition that people think he is right now. He's got a superstar in AI though, so he'll most likely end up giving AI free reign, so expect AI scoring to go up and his shooting % to go down, along with Philly not standing a legit chance of winning a Championship while OB's in town.

Sorry to be the conveyor of bad news, but don't take my word for it, watch and discover for yourselves. I'm elated by this move from Philly. One less team to worry about.

You haven't seen OB coach or do anything with Philly yet so don't be so quick to judge. [IMG]

Celtics weren't that good. They lost almost all their final games. They're lucky the Sixers lost too cos otherwise they wouldn't be in the playoffs.
