This is not an example of that. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Celtics weren't that good. They lost almost all their final games. The Cavs dropped games at the end of the season also, which helped the C's make the playoffs. That's the way the cookie crumbles. IF you're going to point out teams folding late, at least make it the most applicable example. I came in here to share my opinion on the coach Philly hired, not debate whether the C's were worthy of making the playoffs or not. That's done and over and we'll deal with the consequences of it. Either way, a bad team is the playoffs still has a 100% better chance of winning a championship, than a team not in the playoffs.
Whatever you say Hagrid. What Jim O'Brien did with the Boston Cletics was with the Boston Celtics NOT the <font color="Red">Philadelhpia 76ers</font>. Now he's going to be coaching a new team with new players. He might probably mesh well with the Sixers then he did with the Boston Celtics. So we're going to have to wait till next seaosn for any of us to say anything. Hey Hagrid you might have a point to what your saying. Maybe the Sixers wont do as good as we expect. But then again, they might end up competiting back and forth with the Nets for the Atlantic Division number 1 spot.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting hagrid:</div><div class="quote_post">Like they were this year..... </div> we'll see!
That's exactly it: We'll see. My opinion and scenarios presented aren't supposed to somehow be taken as fact. The 2 situations are obviously different. The personel are obviously different. However, I'm not going to sugar coat what I think of OB or that I think Philly fans are going to be disappointed with him. This situation is an ideal one for OB, because the 6ers have a built in superstar that he can ride the coattails of, just like he did with Pierce and Walker in Boston. IMO, AI will get the green light to lead the show. From an outside perspective, that has both it's good points and bad points. AI and OB most likely won't butt heads because OB doesn't discipline players. That's going to be both a pro and a con for Philly, because we are all aware of AI disciplinary issues in the past and if he gets out of hand, no one will be there to reign him in. Philly's in the lottery this year, right? IMO, Trade your pick for the best deal and grab a project player in the second round that you don't have any immediate aspirations of contributing. O'Brien is perhaps the worst coach I've ever seen at developing young players. Good luck next year, because I firmly believe you're going to need it.

Today at the press conference, Billy King confirmed AGAIN that Allen Iverson will indeed be here next here and that's one of the main reasons why Jim O'Brien wanted to come here... he said he wanted the opportunity to coach Allen Iverson.

Just because he changed teams doesn't mean his coaching style will change. He could make the same mistakes here with Philadelphia as he did with Boston. I could care less about the decision, as Jim is not high on my list of coaches. To have Ford stay, and him butt heads with Allen would be terrible, to go through that again. OT: KVH4Fan, you're like a hype man. Whatever anyone else says you just back it up with a simple "that's right," or a "thank you." That title under your name isn't getting served to the fullest ability IMO.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting I3:</div><div class="quote_post">He might probably mesh well with the Sixers then he did with the Boston Celtics.</div> Huh? Might probably? But anyway, I don't understand why everyone assumes OB is going to come in and change everything. Also most coaches keep similar philosiphies when changing teams. OB gave Pierce and Walker free reign in Boston, making the players(Walker) look bad because they continued to keep taking bad shots. OB was the one letting them and telling them to take the shots! He's a decent coach, but he's not the defensive mastermind and great leader as it seems everyone here seems to believe he will be.

And I'm not going to go around and live up to any title. And I think you should have maybe PMed me about that instead of leaving it straight out for everyone to see. But then again, that's just my opinion.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Huh? Might probably?</div> What do you expect me say? That OB WILL mesh will with the team. Well sorry man I can't predict the future. But thats a different story. But anyways if Iverson does indeed get that "green light" to chuck up shots. He will end up the same way he did in his MVP season. Averaging 31 Points but shooting a low FG%. But correct if I'm wrong but wasnt that how Philadelhpia ended up with a 58-24 record. Even though Mutumbo was on that team, and helped Iverson out big time. Iverson performace on the court was the main attraction and thats what helped Philly get that record and earn them the number 1 spot in the East. Also don't forget. Although Mutumbo was a a defensive machine. Dalembart is doing a good job. Don't get me wrong. He's no where near to what Mutumbo was doing for the Sixers but he is a BIG help. After the season he had this year. Expect him to get more minutes and his game will keep getting better and better. Especially his defensive game. He going to develop to one hell of a player for the Sixers.
Anyone see the press conference today? I liked the way that O'Brien presented himself. He seemed like a very nice fit. Also, BK talked about DC not being back next year. *Crosses fingers*
So is this it? DC finally getting traded. Hope it comes down to that. DC would be a good fit. Its just that he's one lazy bum. Basically he's a old man. If he gave the effort that Kevin Willis gives at LEAST. I wouldnt want him to get traded as much as I want him to. BTW if anyone want anymore info. Or hear the conference itself. Go here: Link
Well, Phil Jasner (a writer for the Philly News) asked Billy yesterday about how he said in the newspaper near the end of the season that DC wouldn't be back. Phil questioned him about it by asking if that was true but Billy wouldn't confirm it. So, I'm kinda taking it as DC won't be back.
trading him could be very difficult, because of his big money contract and his age/health i think they will just not protect him in the expansion draft and hope charlotte will choose him(which isn't that unlikely cause he is still a good baller and a vet)
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">08/05/03: The Sixers signed Derrick Coleman to a three-year, $13.5 million contract.</div> Assuming I'm reading that correctly, there's no reason for them to fear his contract. At 4+ a year they could afford him, even considering the fact that Charlotte can only spend 2/3 of thier cap the first year. Personally, Leaving him unprotected isn't much of a risk. He may not be back in Philly next year, but unless Philly is offering Charlotte draft picks in exchange for picking Coleman that then releasing him to get him off the books, I don't see much reason to start building your new franchise around a hobbled, 13 year vet.
