    Because they compiled the worst record, the Magic are guaranteed no worse than the No. 5 lottery pick. But in a rather pedestrian draft, losing out on No. 1 will derail plans to use it as leverage in a possible trade for veterans.

    The Magic would have to revert to Plan A, drafting the best player available for long-term remodeling. This doesn't help them keep T-Mac, but that's reality.

    Under John Gabriel's watch as general manager, the club faltered in the past three drafts. It needs to uncover a gem.
