Was Curry for Hunter really beneficial for us?

I look back at the trade we made at the start of the season - Lindsey Hunter for Michael Curry.
At first, I thought it was a very good trade for us because we supposedly got a great defensive player and good hustle guy for a beat-up and mediocre guard in Hunter. Well....Hunter has blended in quite well in Detroit and has definitely won Larry Brown's respect. He's proven to be a great defensive guard and also has a pretty good shot + good court judgement and he rarely turns the ball over. Curry this season has proved time after time that he cannot score no matter how many minuts you give him. His shot is terrible, he doesn't have any handles, only a bit of agressiveness and his defense is only good at times. We could have really used Hunter this season because of our pg situation. I think KO would have liked him....i mean, the guy was all over Michael Curry this season. I feel that in the end, we lost out quite a bit in this trade. What are your thoughts on this?

its quite hard to judge this. mike curry has provided veteran leadership for us and has been terrific on defense. he guarded some PFs and he communicated a lot of D.

on the other hand, curry had a hobbirle shot as u said and he did practically nothing on offense for us other than remind his teammates where to be in the offensive sets.

hunter has had quite a good season for detriot. then again, with such a great team like detriot it is easier to get your shots and provide penetration since hunter wasnt the main option on offense.

at that time, the raptors had rick brunson (horrible signing), milt paalacio (another horrible signing), and alvin williams. with hunter that would make 4 point guards which would be too much. therefore he got traded but the raps just shouldnt have signed brunson and palacio in the first place.

I don't know, it wasn't good or bad, we should've just waived Hunter and left it at that. Hunter shot way too much, and took many ill-advised shots, and he could run the break very well and actualy score unlike Milt but he never wanted to pass. He also actually had a shot and is a good defender.

Michael Curry had leadership but the other players didn't really like him. What can a guy who can't even make a shot be advising someone who actually has skill to do. (Just playing). Anyways he had a few good defensive games but he's very slow now and couldn't guard perimeter guys and the only inside guys he could guard were undersized one's. His man slacked off him so bad it wasn't even funny, him being on the court killed Carter's penetration abilities many times. He also had many ill-advised fouls and seemed to always be sending other teams players to the line. One other thing is that he should never get a tech, a garbage player like that should not be getting tech's for us.

he was actually able to guard perimeter players alright. he isnt quick by running straight but he has good lateral quickness actually.

about his fouls. yes he does foul too much but he also makes smart fouls. he fouls players at the right time and he fouls hard.

i dont know what ur talking about for the techs. i dont recall on seeing him ever this season getting a tech......i may be wrong.

I liked Hunter, Curry just looks so old and sloppy. And hes like no offence, ppl know hes not gonna drive in so they stand away. I remember Lyndsey playing really good for us. Curry may have good veteran leadership, but that sure didnt win any games for us, and ultimately its all about winning, and if Curry couldnt really provide that, hes more of a liability to us. Mo Pete is a way better defender than Curry.

I like Hunter, I rank him along the likes of Battier and Battie. A man of great effort, who has potential and capability and on average, though he'll never be a star, he'll use blood, sweat and tears to get you by. Players like Malik Rose, Madsen and Outlaw are like him. Defensive monsters without fear, who just want the best for their team. That guy deserves a lot of respect, admiration and props.

You really can't say that Hunter would have done much for us in the first place because he didn't do jack when he was in Toronto. I agree that Michael Curry does not bring much offensively to the table but defensively he set the tone for the Raptors. While everyone else was playing uninsipired on the defensive end Curry would be hustling his ass every night, every time he played. I can't say that at all for most of the Raptors in general.

Curry's value to the Raptors was more than offensive statistics, he was a teacher to most of the younger Raptors as well. Who said that some of the Raptors didn't like him? How did you attain that information? That is pure hearsay IMO and can't even be a true fact. People that say that he wasn't worth the trade for Lindsay Hunter are just looking at the stats and not past them. Curry brought a veteran presence to the team as well as tough defence. You can't measure that in stats.

BTW if Hunter for Curry was so bad, what does everyone think about Hunter for Kareem Rush? Can we look back on that trade and wonder about who would do better? I have one question: Can Raptors fans stop regretting past transactions and start focusing on whats happening now?

^^ Exactly bro. These threads about players that we had in the past, players we traded/didn't sign, what exactly is that going to accomplish??? Absolutely nothing. If we keep on looking to the past and worrying about players we lost out on we are just digging a bigger hole for ourselves every time.

My Advice: Forget the past, focus on whats happening now.

history tells us the mistakes we madein the past so that we wont make the same mistakes in the future. hence, what is happening now is related somewhat to what happened in the past.

yes i do think we r slightly going overboard. we should use what happened in the past as a learning experience instead of just whining about it.....right now we r kinda just regretting everything and all about not signing lenard again (even im doing it a bit lmao).

also, im just wondering, why do u need to mention "That is actually the most intelligent thing I have ever heard from someone named HarryBalls"?
