I would go Kobe as skill-wise but the better all around player has to be Jordan for his leadership and all that. Kobe has more fundamentals than MJ, Kobe can shoot better outside and can penetrate, MJ only can penetrate was because of his ability to hang in the air.

I don't know about that. MJ was one of the most fundamentally sound players all-time. Kobe might have more range on his shot, but MJ was much better from everywhere else below 22 feet. I don't know how u relate hang-time with penetration...u penetrate when dribbling. MJ had a great first step with the control and body strength to finish

just joined the board, didnt have time to read this whole thread, but from the bits and pieces i've picked up, here are my takes...

i dont kno if anyone has mentioned it yet, but the year jordan had to move over to play PG, he averaged 8 assists a game. granted kobe has not had the chance to play PG, he has yet to achieve this. and not only did he average 8 assists, he averaged about 33 points the same year and grabbed 8 rebounds from the pg spot. thats pretty insane if u think about it, when was the last time you saw a pg average 8 boards? this is the year that jordan was 25-26 years old, which is where kobe is at this year. and prior to this, jordan had years where he averaged 35 and 37 ppg, all the meanwhile doing it with 50% shooting.

jordan won his first mvp in 88 when he was 25 years old, kobe has yet to do that. sure jordan had his own team, but in the last 2 years, you can argue that this team has transpired in to kobe's team. '88 was also the year MJ won defensive player of the year, which kobe has yet to do, and that's not because he shares the floor w/ shaq.

im just going to compare kobe with jordan up to age 26, because kobe is still developing. but keep in mind, kobe had a few years in the nba to develop. jordan came in as a rookie and averaged 28 points, and single handedly took the bulls to the playoffs.

aside from the rings and the outside shot, by age 26, michael achieved much more than kobe in terms of individual accolades. and dont tell me kobe would have won ANY of those rings w/o shaq. also, to avoid kobe's career to MJs entire career at this point is ridiculous. it's not even close, and should not even be open to argument. MJ is the clear winner there, dont make arguments based on speculation.

*edit* also, we never got see jordan play basketball in his prime. we did however get to see him play baseball during it.
