Rumor has it that the Raptors are in talks with Joey Meyer for him to become the new head coach. For those who don't know, Joey Meyer is the coach of the Ashville Altitude from the NBDL and started the season off at 2-8 and eventually led the team to it's first NBDL championship. I think this is very realistic, he's already on top in the NBDL and now it's time to move up to the big leagues and i'm sure David Stern would love it.
Ugh....I don't know how to react because I have no idea who this dude is....I don't feel good about it though...
^me too. I still think we should get a veteran coach like Doc Rivers. But this could be good, you never know, i mean he did win a championship in the NBDL (in a way that is a good and bad thing considering about coaching the RAPS)
Here's a profile on him... <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Joey Meyer enters his third season as head coach of the National Basketball Development League?s Asheville Altitude in 2003-04. Named to the position on July 21, 2001, Meyer has guided the Altitude to consecutive fifth-place league finishes, posting a 49-57 overall record. ?After years of collegiate coaching, I remain excited to be a member of the NBA family,? said Meyer. ?I have an opportunity to have a positive effect on the development of players and make an impact in the Asheville community as well.? Since taking over the reins of the Altitude, Meyer has coached three guards that have earned NBA call-ups, including 2003 All-NBDL first team performer Jeff Trepagnier, who earned a call-up to the Denver Nuggets. Meyer?s other two call-ups were Rusty LaRue to the Utah Jazz and Jason Hart to the San Antonio Spurs during the 2001-02 season. Meyer joined the Altitude following a 31-year term with DePaul University. From 1987-1997, Meyer led the Blue Demons as head coach, posting a 231-158 record, second on the school?s all-time career win list. He guided his DePaul teams to seven NCAA Division I Basketball Tournament appearances, three National Invitation Tournament appearances and six straight 20-plus win seasons. He was also named CBS and Chevrolet coach of the year in 1987 and won the Great Midwest Conference regular season championship in 1991-92. Meyer also served as an assistant coach at DePaul from 1973-1984 under his father, Hall of Fame coach Ray Meyer. Prior to his varsity head coaching position at DePaul, Joey Meyer served as Junior Varsity head coach from 1972-1973 and freshman head coach from 1971-1972. Prior to his arrival with the Altitude, Meyer coached the Chicago Skyliners of the ABA 2000 to a league-best 29-11 record en route to a Western Conference Championship. </div> http://www.nba.com/nbdl/coaches/joey_meyer.html
Hmm...i dont know about this guy too. Wining the NBDL championship is so much different than wining a game in NBA, i personaly like Kevin Oneil but if that Joey guy can make Vince Carter happy and able to encourage he to be a Great player...why not. I doubt Vince will respect a NBDL coach, maybe we never know unless he is hired. But there are many coaches averiable rit, Doc Rivers, Bryon Scott. Hey let Doc River to decide which cousin are a better player Vince or T-Mac
i dont see the raps hiring anyone untill they get a GM set if this does happen, cant say im too excited about it.
i agree with dj. i think we should look to a more experienced coach. some1 that can push vince hard and get the team to play a team offense (not just stand on the perimeter and jack up shots or give vince an iso every time) we need to also get a coach that would make defense parto f the game. quite frankly, i dont know much about b. scott and d. rivers.....however, i get the impression that they arentthat great. scott hasnt earned the respect of kidd which worries me since kidd is a star player that cares about the team. plus, many ppl were saying eddie jordan ran the nets team all the time. rivers doesnt seem to know what to do when he doesnt have a point guard. with armstrong gone this season, he wasnt able to run an offense effectively with tyronne lue.

if u know anything about the raptors u know they would never do anything of the such. they pride themselves on their rigid corporate structure, they would never hire a dude without nba experience, no eric musselman's in this organization.
