Has anyone else noticed the difference in feel from the history of "The NBA on NBC"? Does anyone know when ABC's contract is up so NBC can get it back. NBC is where the NBA needs to be IMO. (especially with ABC's whole "we got hoops" slogan) ugh!!
I totally agree with you. I was about to make a post of this myself. Where do I start? 1. I miss the theme song, the trumpets. You know the one I?m talking about. The one where they play before and after every commercial break. The one where you wake up Sunday morning, tune to channel 4, hear the song, and instantly know it?s NBA basketball. ABC lacks this kind of identity. Honestly, when I tune to ABC I honestly can?t tell if I?m watching golf or basketball. It?s just so mundane. 2. The play by play guys and color men suck. You?ve got the guy Football guys calling a basketball game. I can?t help to think that it?s football season every time Al Michaels or Brad Nestler speaks. Sean Elliot, Tom Tolbert , Dan Majerle, these guys are good players but lack the depth of knowledge that a coach like Mike Fratello or Doug Collins has. Half the time these guys are talking out of their asses. 3. TNT is so much better. Seriously play by play guys like Kevin Harlon and Marv Albert really make a difference. The enthusiasm and excitement of game really comes through in their voices backed with the depth of knowledge like Fratello and Collins. I don?t know maybe it?s me but I prefer to watch basketball on TNT over ABC/ESPN anyday. It?s really like night and day. If the NBA goes bankrupt you can blame it on ABC for putting out a crappy product.
I miss the NBA on NBC. I always used to anticipate the games played there because they were well done and entertaining as well. Ever since ABC got the contract I have stopped watching those kinds of NBA telecasts because I find them to be horrible (Opinions, Announcers). Also the theme music classic. Now I watch TNT whenever I can possible. Inside the NBA has to be the best basketball show I have ever seen. The chemistry between Barkley, EJ, and Kenny is funnier than most sitcoms.

I thought we already had a thread on this? Oh well, I'll post my opinion. I like the triple headers on sundays and I like the theme song.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The chemistry between Barkley, EJ, and Kenny is funnier than most sitcoms.</div> Just listening to them is great. Sir Charles always has something to say and I laugh every time I watch. The funniest part was when they had Karl Malone show off his fat he got from beign injured and it was like nothing at all and then Charles pulls his shirt up and hes got this huge gut and he goes like Why take a six pack when you can have a keg? It was great.

I remember I asked a simple trivia question that nobody could answer at the time..."who composed the NBA on NBC theme" Anyway, what I miss most is the triple-headers...and the ABC/ESPN announcers just bore me to death...

I miss the times when Steve Jones and Bill Walton would do telecasts. Whenever Bill would say something really dumb (Which is pretty much 50% of the time) Steve Jones would absolutely murder him. Classic stuff.

Yeah, I actually hate to admit it I'd rather have Bill Walton doing the color commentary. At least he makes you think like he believes what he's saying even though it's contrary to what he just said said 5 minutes ago.
yah i used to love NBa on NBC...it was like THE place to watch nba basketball...now its TNT which is just as good/if not better but NBC had it wrapped as a classic telecast almost every game.... ABC makes it boring as hell...i couldnt stand Tom on NBA and i still cant stand him now i miss the theme, Ahmad Rashad, Bill Walton, Snapper, Mike, doug, Marv and the whole NBC atmosphere... ABC needs to stop broadcasting cuz they dont do it rite...
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting notMuchgame:</div><div class="quote_post">haha, too bad u weren't there 6 months ago </div> Come on man. That's common knowledge. Any respectable basketball fan would know that. .
^I didn't know that. Does that make me an average fan? I thought it was kenny G. NMG:Hahahaha, very true. This guy was born with Foot in Mouth disease. I think the Bill Walton reference just shows what ABC is lacking. Personality. Bring in some personality ABC. And bring back those triple headers!
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting CourtVision:</div><div class="quote_post"> NMG:Hahahaha, very true. This guy was born with Foot in Mouth disease. </div> Who is? Sorry if its obvious
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting notMuchgame:</div><div class="quote_post">Who is? Sorry if I'm lost </div> Bill Walton...if you were to listen to him you'd think every player was the greatest player in the history of the NBA....until of course he commits a turnover.
Bill can ride a players jock until he does something wrong. After that happens all you hear is "Horrible, Deplorable, awful."
TNT is not that great either. ESPN and ABC are complete trash. If you listen to ESPN's sound, and then turn on the local channel for the local team, you will notice it. You cannot hear the crowd on ESPN/ABC at all. It makes the game extremely boring.

I don't bother to watch the ABC games unless the Lakers only play on that channel, and all I really watch is TNT. Like you said, it's great watching Barkley Kenny and EJ. Listening to Barkley saying something dumb and then being made fun of is classic! We also get to see a lot of the players who aren't in the playoffs like Alanzo Mourning. It's always fun when they have guests instead of Magic IMO.
