Based on statistics alone, how would you rank these four point guards. Stephon Marbury 20.2 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 8.9 APG, 1.59 SPG Sam Cassell 19.8 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 7.3 APG, 1.26 SPG Jason Kidd 15.5 PPG, 6.4 RPG, 9.2 APG, 1.82 SPG Baron Davis 22.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 7.5 APG, 2.36 SPG
1. Jason Kidd - he is the best pint guard in the NBA right now period. He is very close in getting triple-doubles all the time. He can score, has great passes, and can get the boards. 2. Stephon Marbury - he's #2 because even though he can't get that much boards, he can still shoot and make the other players on his team look good with neat assists. 3. Baron Davis - even though he had a terrible season last year, he was very good this year. He had the most points out of every one of these point guards because he was so athletic and he could dunk. Also gave very good dishes to Jamal Mashburn and Jamal Maglore (sp?). 4. Sam Cassell - he was a great shooter from the outside, but I'm going to say he's #4 in this list because he didn't really pick up the boards or steals. He didn't drive in that much, but still had many assists.
As much as I like Kidd, I'll put him first, but Marbury a close second, he's really brought a nobody team to a somewhere near decent level. B Dizzle is better overall than Marbury but seems to have a better supporting cast, although Monster Mash was out for awhile. Cassell, one of my favorite players, I think his stats don't really matter. Look what he's done to and for Minnesota. Have you ever seen this guy hustle or flinch? He's a human demon. He once jumped over a guy on the ground and jacked the ball when getting on the ground to the otherside and passed it off to KG for the slam. And that was this season. This shows skill, intelligence, his efforts.

Gilbert Arenas, ALWAYS LOOKED PAST UNFORTUNATELY! 19.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 5 APG, 1.87 steals per game. When you consider that the guy was playing on a new team, was for the first time in his career the goto guy, and was injuried for a good chunk of the season that's pretty impressive. I think next season if he's healthy all year long he'll be a little more conservative with the ball and make less turnovers. Also I think as he begins to finally mesh with his teammates his assists numbers will skyrocket. Hopefully Washington can stay healthy year round and Gilbert can get some legit help, taking better shots rather than forcing them and his field goal percentage will improve as well.
Sam Cassell would be #2 on my list behind J Kidd. You're forgetting FG% and Assist to Turnover ratio. My guess is Sam Cassell has the best FG% among all of them. Any fool can score if he shot enough times so the PPG don't really mean much unless you show me their FG%. J Kidd JUST makes everybody better so theirs no contest on who's #1.
I think Carlos Arroyo was pretty stastically impressive this past year considering how much he had played in the past. This year he averaged over 12 points and 5 assist, considering the past season, he barely got 3 points per game. I don't know if this was a fluke season or things of what to come, but he showed he could lead a team. Sure he's not up to par with the other guys you named but he is good enough to start for half the teams in the league.
Kevin Garnett...Call me crazy, but when Sam got into foul trouble, the big guy makes a hell of a good point guard. Sam was great this season, but needs to check his attitude. Jason Kidd...The current greatest PG? Probobly Baron Davis- On and off, very good clutch shooter, fun to watch Honorable mention Andre Miller, and Earl Boykins really showed me their intensity during the series. Andre is a great rebounder, and Earl is extremely quick and scrappy.
Kevin Garnett?? We're talking about someone that plays PG for a living, we all know KG played it ONCE this season, but he's not a PG. Carlos Arroyo did alright, but its not impressive compared to many other PG's. All those guys mentioned plus, Andre Miller, Snow, Jason Terry, Tony Parker, Arenas etc had better numbers than Arroyo. About FG%, well since the originator didn't mention FG% and assist-bad pass (not turnover) ratio, we didn't include it.
Statistically I'd have to say Stephon Marbury. 20.2 PPG and 8.9 APG is amazing. Year after year he is putting up 20+ points with 8+ assists per game, and I think he is one of the most underrated players in this league. But ofcourse stats don't mean everything..
Stephon has the best all-around numbers, but the best pure-point numbers belong to Kidd. Not too much scoring, high assists and good steals.
Stephon Marbury is definitely the most statistically impressive point gaurd in the league. Marbury and Oscar Robertson are the only players in the NBA to ever have career averages over 20 points and 8 assists.

In 90% of the intense presses, KG would bring the ball up. KG has never played a full game of PG, but has contributed enough, in my opinion, to make him at least worth some honorable mention.
That's not playing PG, that's being a secondary ball handler, Vince Carter for the Raptors brought the ball up at least 5 times a game and setup the play, Lamar Odom of the Heat does it about 5-10 times a game, Paul Pierce does it, Tmac does it. Payton and Kobe basically share the point duties in LA but are they PG's? No.
