http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/TorontoSun/S.../04/446327.html I think this would be a huge signing for the Raps. High Profile and a proven winner. Can he handle the executive aspect of Basketball, I think so. This would be a great step forward for the Raps. What do you guys think?
I have no idea how well this guy would do in a GM suit. He was president of Orlando a while back but I can't see this guy being a solid executive. He's high profile thats for sure but is he the right man for the job?
he definitely can attract frre agents and get the respect of players and coaches. whether or not he can make the right moves (trades, signings, scouting) is up in the air....
I agree, that he doesn't really have any experience in front office position. But does that really matter for a GM in Toronto? They could hire an assistant GM to fill the roles that Dr.J is lacking experience in. Just the thought of a Big Name GM is definitely intriguing.
MCclosky would be a good advisor/co-gm to erving i kinda like the idea...he may not have any experience, but he would attract players thats for sure. and lets face it, obviously he knows the game.
I love this idea!!!!! He would attract tons of great talent to the team, making us much better, with more talent, more wins= playoffs!!!!! I know he isn't very experienced, but hes DR. J, he knows basketball, he knows talent, he knows who can make it in this league and who can't, so come on lets sign him. Take a chance, who else is OK, maost are like ass. Gm, so why not take a chance and get DR. J. Think of the players he would attract. he also would be great for Vince, maybe turn him around. I give it a thumbs UP!!!!!!!!!!!
I know Julius Erving and his game, but i'm not too sure about being a GM. getting someone high-profiled as him will attracta lot of talent, but i'm not too sure about how smart he is when it comes to a very improtant job like this.
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Mr.Fundamentals:</div><div class="quote_post">I know Julius Erving and his game, but i'm not too sure about being a GM. getting someone high-profiled as him will attracta lot of talent, but i'm not too sure about how smart he is when it comes to a very improtant job like this.</div> Yeah, he might be like Jordan Then again, he has loads of smarts, he has experience of talking to fellow players and is a great businessman. So as a GM, I think he'd make good decisions. Although I don't like him for being the cheater and womanizer that he is, I obviously know when to draw the line to know how good he is at analysing the game. It's why he's one of the greats and it's why he played so well against them. He knew how the game worked, and, he knew how they worked. I feel and strongly believe he can pull it off. Bring this team together. One thing's for sure, he'll do a hell of a better job than the current one. Let alone Danny Ainge, whom anyone could outperform, probably even people who know little if nothing about basketball. edit: Important thing I forgot to mention. I know he's not the coach, but I think if he conferred with his players, he could really influence Bosh for the better.
How ironic would it be for Dr. J to recruit T-Mac back to the Raptors as their GM? Dr. J has a great track record for his success in basketball. He's a basketball icon, and a lot of the young talent in the league relate with Dr. J. From my knowledge of Dr. J, I don't think he would make himself available for the job, if he didn't think he would be great at it.
http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/Articl...orts/Basketball Follow up. According to this article it would appear Dr.J is much more interested in the Raps, than the Raps are interested in him. Could be a mistake.
Raptors close to naming a GM <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">There is every chance the new Raptor general manager will be in place in a little more than a week, which would be an excellent idea given the enormous task that awaits him.</div> Raps didn't need to laugh off Dr. J <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Julius Erving's interest in the job has apparently been pooh-poohed by the Raptors. But it's hard to imagine The Doctor could do any worse than The Lawyer. Glen Grunwald, the deposed GM who worked as a Chicago attorney before presiding over victory in one playoff series during his seven-year Toronto tenure, never had the big-name cachet to inspire awe around the league.</div>
i really dont know what the raps r doing. who r those 2 candidates anyway? idont know a thing about them....
yeah peddie is an idiot...how about firing peddie and letting Dr J replace him? then we get some1 else for GM and coach lol
Could be nice to see him there, the team will then forever be the "dunking team", they got Carter and DR.J in the same organisation, that's great! I don't really know how he would manage the GM job, but he know much basketball, so why can't he succed as many other old and retired players?
It sounds like Dr. J didn't do much when he was a vp with Orlando. It sounds like Dr. J needs a job to keep up with his alimony payments. You'll find him pumping gas somewhere soon.
I'd love to see that happen. Dr. J would give players good advices, especially Vince, since they seem to keep a good relationship.
