"It's definitely been a long process, but my whole life, it's been my dream to play in the NBA," Telfair told ESPN.com on Monday night.

    right or wrong?

I think he will make it in the NBA, but I think that he would of been better off going to college for a year or two.

I think he will, but not very soon. Maybe 3 or 4 years into the league. I really like him, it's a shame he had to leave his neighbourhood. Shows he's a good person who cares for his family though. But from a bball fan and player standpoint, he should've done college. He has no shot. He'll be worse than TJ Ford for the next few years. He's too little.

Eventually he might become like Jameer Nelson. Shot. Handle. PG. That's a long time from now though. I hope he makes it, he made the right decision for his family. But for ballin', I think not. Let's just hope he doesn't get banged and knocked up in his first season.

Im not trying to sound like an idiot or anything...but why is that a shame? It is a shame that he has to leave his friends, but he is trying to better himself and his family, I think if you would ask him if he would chose bettering himself or staying where he is...he would choose Bettering himself

This was pretty much an expected move. However, I think that his game needs more seasoning, and Memphis seemed like a perfect system for him. Also, he may get lost in this year's batch of talented PG's: Nelson, Livingston etc.

The main reason he is going is because two of his friends were killed in his building, and he wants to get his family out. Is there anything wrong with that? No.

Telfair will be a good pro one day. He is an incredibly hard worker.

I was saying that one from a player's and bball fan's standpoint that time. He'll be missing out on invaluable pre-nba time which could've been used to improve his game. These probably being done in college. Most importantly, his shot.

That has nothing to do with his neighborhood though? He lives in a rough part of Brooklyn..

And Trip...He would of attended Louisville, not Memphis

EDIT : Telfair did not drop out of high school. That was a rumor.

First, he was going to go to Louisville under Rick Pitino. We know his game needs more "seasoning" but his decision was for his family.

Darius Washington, the player most recruiters believe is the 3rd best PG in this class, is going to Memphis, just to clear it up.

I heard that rumor, they also were talking about it on PTI.

His shot has improved, it can use more work, but I think he will be fine in a couple of years. He is a man, and he made a man's decision to better his family. That was a respectable thing to do and I think people should respect that.

Oh, I never really followed his recruiting process, but I remember in his High School diary in SLAM last year that the top on his list is Memphis. Thanks for telling me guys.

Telfair is a great player from what I've seen but his body frame doesnt look like it is ready for the NBA,but I think in a few years he can develop into a good player first he will have to bulk up.If I was a hs school superstar livin in the hood I would go to the NBA to.

Iam not going to knock him for his decision. I dont know what his family sistuation is like, In his press conference he said he was happy to make his family sistuation better. So maybe family had a huge impact on his decision. But with that being said......

If I was Telfair, I would have went to college(unless my family needed the money right now). He is about 5'10, doesnt have NBA strenght. And from what I seen is not as quick as the smaller NBA point guards like a Tony Parker. I dont think he will be a starter right away like Lebron(cause he doesnt have the size or skill level).

Point guards dont coming into the NBA straight out of HS, because it just doesnt work. Point guard is to difficult to play straight of HS for most. And NBA teams that need point guards arent willing to wait for PG's to develope because the position is to important to team success. Most teams with point guard problems need a quick fix. So if Telfair isnt ready, I dont think a team would stick with him as long as they would a bigman out of hs.

Telfair might work if he gets drafted by a team that already has a starting point guard in place for the next 2 seasons. Then he might get a chance to develope into a starter over time. But I dont expect to much out of him in his 1st 2 or 3 seasons.

There have been alot of NY point guards with alot of hype behind them coming out of high school in recent years. But none of them really lived up to the hype after high school. Omar Cook, Erick Barkely,Talik Brown etc. Iam from NYC, & sometimes we build our point guards up to be bigger then they are because they are from NYC. And NYC is know across the world as the city that breeds legendary PG's like Tiny Archibald etc. So it will be interesting to see if he lives up to the NYC legend.

But I wish Telfair all the best of luck. And I hope he made the best decision for the long term. And I will be route for Sebastian 100%

Can't really blame him for wanting to get his family outta the projects. He's the only point guard to go straight to the pros too. But he most likely wouldn't be a instant impact player like Lebron of course being so small and all. Just happy for his family and hopefully he works really hard and isn't a bust in the league.

He is actually around 6'0", 6'1" in shoes probably. I have seen him play in person, and he is actually extremely quick.

this dude has the hype machine behind him yet he fails to perform at the mcdonalds all star game being held scoreless. there is too much hype behind new york city point guards and most never meet lofty expectations.

I think this is a mistake on his part. But if someone drafts him high it won't be. I expect this guy to be a good player in the NBA but in reality he's not even the best point guard in the draft (Shaun Livingston). I hope he doesn't go second round but I can't see a team taking a chance on him until then.

Should have taken a year at school sonny boy. Too bad.

Do you think he is tony Parker quick?

The point guard position is alot stronger now, so your going to have to be extremely quick like Parker or a younger Damon Stoudmire or you have to be strong. The league doesnt really have that many small starting Point guards anymore. Imagine him going up against a PG with the size & body of a Baron Davis or J.Kidd.

Bassy is the man. Boy he has an electric cross-over and is a great overall player, but i must say his shot need's a little work from what I've heard. He is my favorite player not in the NBA and will be my favorite player when he gets in the NBA. Good choice for his family and he's 18 he will fill in dont worry.

I really wouldn't be surprised if this guy came into the league and played well off the bat. I know a lot of people doubt him but he's something different, and if he gets drafted by a team in need of a PG and gives him time, I really think he could be a surprise.
