<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I know when it's my time, and this is my time,'' Bass said.

The announcement came a day after the Hornets were eliminated from the playoffs by the Miami Heat, losing Game 7 of their first-round series 85-77.

The Hornets never had a losing season during Bass' tenure and made the playoffs seven times. He'll help the team through the NBA draft next month.

Bass was instrumental in the hiring of head coach Tim Floyd before this season. The Hornets were expected to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, but they finished 41-41.

The team had problems in part because of the absence of Jamal Mashburn, who was an All-Star and the team's leading scorer the previous season. But Mashburn played only 19 games and missed the playoffs entirely.</div>

Bass has been one of the best assets of the Hornets' franchise for some time. I've been critical of a lot of his moves, but the bottom line is that he's responsible for some of the top seasons in team history, some of the top playoffs in team history, and some of the top player acquisitions in team history.

Here's some of the names Bob Bass can be proud of discovering. The Hornets are going to miss front-office fixture Bob Bass. He worked with a limited budget and low picks and still kept his roster stocked. Some of his draft-day steals: SG Tony Delk (16th pick), SG Ricky Davis (21), C Jamaal Magloire (19) and PF David West (18). He also found PFs Malik Rose and Lee Nailon in the second round.

Here's more moves, good and bad.
