What do you think will happen to K-Mart. He wants a MAX contract, but if the Nets don't go to the finals will changes be made? I'm a big fan of his game, but the Nets could get a good player in return, who might score a bit more. The Nets seem a bit static this year.
Yea, i think if the nets didnt go for Alonzo Morning, they will have enough money to sign both RJ K-Mart a wealthy contract, but I havent see K-Mart playing like one of the best Power foward like Duncan and KG. He doesnot deserve the max contract.
If I was Rob Thorn,I would give him the max contract. I know he isnt worth a max contract yet, but he improves every year. And he is the heart of the Nets imo. J.Kidd of course is our best player, but his personality isnt out going like K-Mart. So the Nets often look to K-Mart for his energy & passion. And I can't truely see this current Nets team without Kenyon Martin. And with the Nets set to move to NYC in a few years, I think its in the best effort to keep a guy like K-Mart on the team. He would be in the be a big hit in NYC. He plays with the type of toughness that former Knicks like Charles Oakley, Patrick Ewing use to play with, New Yorkers love those type of players. I think thats why Knick fans hate him so much because reminds them of the type of players they use to have. And would like to have again but dont. But anyway letting K-Mart go would be the worst mistake made by the Nets since they broke up the 97-98 Nets by trading Sam Cassell for Steph Marbury imo.
As much as I don't like intense players, this guy is different. He does it all, he deserves it. Not only does he work hard, but in most games they win or that he is a part of, he is a major factor in that victory. Not to mention the defensive and rebounding ability this guy brings. The blocks, the boards. The all-around D. Above all though is his game awareness that I like, especially on offense. Not only is it effective, but it is hella entertaining.
kmart is going to stay. he knows he is with the best pg in the league and that the nets have a shot at the finals every year with this core group. people really shouldnt compare kmart to kg and td bc kmart is only in his fourth year in the league. every year he was improved, this yr he could've had bigger #'s but injuries hurt him but he still improved # wise and did make his first all-star team. eventually i expect him to be a 20/10 guy every single night. his style of game is diff from td and kg too. they both have multiple low post moves and can hit the fade away jp and outside jper more consistantly than kmart, but that will come with time. i know people on the outside lookin in wont say he is a max player, but he is a max player in this franchise. you can see the potential he has, he just hasnt found it all yet. he is getting smarter every yr, defense getting better and leadership is improving also. other teams, like dallas, would give kmart a close to max contract b/c he is an impact player, so for us to keep him we will have to give max. this isnt like he is an underachiever, you can see him improvement and what he has to offer to this organization. the only way he will not be a net next yr is if there is a sign & trade (with who i have no clue, should/wont happen) or that rod thorn goes insane and doesnt resign him. rod said he wanted to keep kmart and i'd say 99% of ppl know that kenyon will remain in Jersey for a long-long time along with Kidd and RJ. (great young core with a vet. eventually that is going to pay off for us). for kenyon to take that next step closer to the kg/td lvl, i think our offense needs to change a bit. he needs to be the center of the offense. the offense needs to run through him. once he starts b/c a big low post threat, teams will dbl team him and kick it out, just like kg/td. that will take time tho, he is a young player. he will be an all-nba player in a few years, even non-nets fans will say that b/c other fans realise he does have a lot of potential. so exciting !
It's obvious that he's not on the same level as TD and KG but there are only a few players in this league (regardless of position) that is capable of changing the game both on the offensive and the defensive end. One of which is KMart. He's shown this season that he can take over a game when the game is on the line may it be on the offensive or defensive end. Plus, he's young and has that swagger that the Nets as a team possesses. He's a perfect fit for the offense that's led by Kidd. Jefferson would probably ask for Odom type of money and if we can get this three, we're a decent back-up 7 footer away from even more greatness. Just like what throwback said, you can never disregard his improvements each and every year. I'll be the first one to say it. He'll average a TD next year. To go along with his consistent blocks and steals production. There are only a few forwards who can hold his own against post monsters like TD and KG, one of which is KMart. If we can only get a decent back-up for him, he can stay away from foul trouble. There are also a lot of things that doesn't show in the stat sheets. Like his ability to fire up a half empty arena, fire up his teammates, be the emotional leader and some other things like that. Plus his ability to guard 5 positions with ease. He can guard the quickest guards to the scariest big men. I remember one game against the Hornets wherein he guarded all 5 players at the same defensive play and ended up running a quarter of a court to block a should've been open three pointer by Armstrong. It would show in the stat sheets as one block but it meant way more than that. He also improved a lot on his post game which he didn't have before. When he first came to the league, his greatest asset was his shotblocking. Then he had his dunking, ability to receive the oop, run the fastbreak, make steals, grab the rebound then his much improved post game. Who knows what's next? Knowing KMart, he'll be working on a mid range jumper. KMart wants a max contract and teams are willing to offer him one. If this is the same Thorn who was smart enough to draft MJ, he'll be smart enough to know that KMart should be a part of the Nets' future. Give him his max contract.
I couldn't agree more. I think K-Mart is a great player already. If nets move anyone it should be RJ. K-Mart is a born leader and you don't get 2 many in the league anymore. He played well in the All-Star game showing he's up there with the best. Is there anyway the nets could get T-mac. obviously without trading kidd or K-mart? Now that would be a good team.
KMart is the man, he deserves every penny of his contract.. Afterall he works hard, gets the job done, allstar and can do the shimmy. KMart is the total package in a big man, it would be a real shame if the Nets go out and sign someone like Kobe instead of KMart.Kobe wouldnt fit with the nets and KMart is a big man and NJ already has RJ and KMart as there high flyers, so RE SIGN KMart
