<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Tim Floyd was fired Friday after one season as coach of the New Orleans Hornets, who were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

"We thanked Tim for his hard work, but we are in a bottom-line business," owner George Shinn said at a news conference. "We hired a coach that we thought could help us make a run to the next level, and we weren't successful."

Shinn declined to discuss potential replacements. He said no decision had been made about Floyd's assistant coaches.

Hornets assistant Alvin Gentry and New Orleans native Avery Johnson are candidates to replace Floyd, according to ESPN.com's Marc Stein.</div>

not a suprise. been reports of players not respecting him. hornets might be the most disappointing team this season. going into the season they looked good, then injuries killed the season, but there was bad blood between mash and the team which was a suprise to me. with the talent the hornets have, they should'nt have been a 5th seed. yes injuries were a big reason for the downward spiral the hornets had, but i still thought they had enough talent to keep the 4th seed. then again, talent doesnt mean anything if there is no chemestry. i expect hornets to come out hot next year and make a serious playoff run.

so, who should take over? george karl has said he wanted to get back into coaching. im sure his name will be thrown around with maybe byron scott and others.

Good move, there are much better coaches out there at the time being. The hornets should go for Byron Scott or Kevin O'neal, or Avery Johnson. Johnson would be my choice he is up to date on the players and brings leadership in any role player/coach. Avery would be great and he could help Baron Davis work on his Pure Point Gaurd skills like passing and courtvision, Not that he needs help with that but it wouldnt be bad to get better.

Good move and not a suprise. Tim didnt have the respect from his players, it wasnt a healthy relationship. I wonder if anyone will pick him up.

Finally. This was to be expected even a year ago. Paul Silas is an excellent NBA coach. Tim Floyd isn't. So expecting him to do better than Silas with the same group was asinine. It wasn't surprising when he dropped 6 games from the last record Silas posted with the team. HELLO GEORGE SHINN. YOU HIRED THE WORST COACH IN NBA HISTORY, SO WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?

Anyway, Karl might be a possibility, but a bigger one I think is Mike Fratello. Fratello's name was thrown around a lot after Silas' firing, and he's friends with either Shinn or Wooldridge, I can't remember which. I think Wooldridge. And he's definitely looking to get back into coaching. Plus, Shinn did say they're looking for a veteran coach who has had success in the NBA, which Fratello had with both Cleveland and Atlanta.

The Hornets'd better get someone good this time. Tim Floyd was downright notorious, and Shinn should hire someone who knows the ropes and could earn his players' respect.

Fratello's name was trown sometimes in the last changing of the coach i tihnk that he would be a very good possibility for the hornets

I like the George Karl thing he is a type of coach that WIN is his middle name i would love to see him in New Orleans

and also the thing about Floyd, i didn't really like the whole idea of him coming to the Hornets after the years with Paul Silas that were good, Shinn said that he wanted something better for the hornets but how mch better is Floyd than Silas ? NONE. I think it's a good thing that he got fired

Not suprising decision, good move to get a better future, overall a very smart move by Hornets. [IMG]

They wasted a season on this guy. Tim couldn't coach a bunch of young guys with potential, he couldn't coach a bunch of talented guys.

The Czar would be a logical choice.

I never understood this hire in the first place. I think they were just trying to give an absolutely terrible coach one last chance to make something of a pretty much lost career and it ended up failing miserably. Though they must have seen something in him in order to go and let a great coach like Paul Silas go, I still don't know what it was. Nonetheless, it was an absolutely terrible hire. Big mistake by the front office to hire him in the first place. For their sake, I hope they don't screw up this bad again.
