During the game against the Browns, a graphic was displayed that listed Junior, Zach, Jason, Madison, & Surtain are taking up 24.5 million of the cap. Seau won't be back. One of the CB's won't. My guess is Madison as he is older even though Surtain takes up more cap space. On the offense, Feidler & Konrad are gone. It s/b quite obvious why Jay is gone. Konrad is making to much for a FB and is more & more injury prone. I read that Saban may switch to 3-4. If so, Zach & Bates could be gone. That IMO would be a mistake. I thought the 3-4 was more expensive having to pay 2 LB's, a DL, & one the secondary big $. Whereas the 4-3, you only have to pay a 1 DE, LB, & CB a boatload of cash. A switch to the 3-4 may not be bad. I bet Tim Bowens will retire due to health. You can run a 3-4 w/ small LB's. In one of those football for dummies books, It was stated Schottenheimer ran a version of 3-4 in Kansas City with LB/S hybrids which are in abundance at least thats what the book said. Imagine Jason Taylor in the role Derrick Thomas had. Donnie Edwards is thriving in San Diego so why can't Zach flourish in a 3-4? Starting Sunday night, this off season could be quite interesting I am looking forward to what y'all think.
Heh heh... I was just looking over the 'Fins roster on ESPN to start forming my opinions and I just realized...I went to school with Matt Turk in Whitewater. *laughs* Small world...
If you really want a detailed look at the 'Fins cap situation in 2005, check here: http://www.finheaven.com/seasonal/salaries.php Marty Booker is scheduled to make $2.9 million next year. Time to renegotiate that a bit, methinks.
the 3-4 could make some sense with the LBs they have....Jason Taylor and Tony Bua outside and Zach Thomas and Derrick Pope on the inside could work....they dont have the hybrid end/tackles to play the DE position, but they could be aquired(Marcus Spears at LSU looks like a perfect 3/4 DE and he has a great relationship with Saban)....
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (TheBeef)</div><div class='quotemain'>...they dont have the hybrid end/tackles to play the DE position,</div> Larry Chester could work as the NT. I agree that there are no viable candidates for DE in the 3-4. Zgonina maybe? Drafting that Cody kid from USC may work? Though, I see him as a 3 tackle (in a 4-3) like Sapp was in Tampa.

By cutting, Madison, Seau, Feidler, & Konrad then having Tim Bowens retire that saves 11.3 million. If Surtain & Booker restructre all the better.
Dolphins have some work cut out in front of them i am a fins fan and it was hard wathching this year. Saban will do good. Withe the 3-4 New England, Pitt, San Diego and Atlanta all play the 3-4 and those are great defenses. with a 3-4 the keys are a big NT and fast, physical linebackers.
