<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">We have a mystery on our hands. Where is Bison Dele? For those of you, unfamiliar. Bison Dele was a former college star, and a better-than-average NBA talent who was once known by his given name, Brian Williams.</div> <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Despite his different-ness Dele was liked for the most part, by his teammates, and certainly gave his all on the court. He even played alongside Michael Jordan on the 1997 NBA Championship Chicago Bulls. On the private side, Dele was also known as being generous with his money. But surprisingly, this talented young man simply walked away from the game in 1999. He was still in his prime money earning years. And the contract he walked away from was worth, $36,000,000 dollars. -- No exaggeration.</div> Full Story I've been searching some information for Dele and chanced upon this article. Anyone who can positively confirm what happened to him?
I think the last team he played was for the pistons, but that was before they traded Grant Hill. That's all I know.
But what happened to him after he walked away from that fat contract? <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">There is a perception that he is dead. Perhaps by the hand of his own brother. It's been two months already, since Dele, his girlfriend, and another man were seen on a boat in the South Pacific. Perhaps, some speculate, they were taken by pirates. A hazard in that part of the world right now. But in this same time period Dele's brother, Miles Dabord has been in trouble with the law for trying to use Dele's identity to make expensive purchases. Dabord was in possession of some of Dele's checks, his credit cards, and passport. He is currently a wanted man by the F.B.I. in the U.S. and by the authorities in Tahiti. Where Dele's boat was found recently, unattended and unoccupied, in harbor.</div>
his bro killed him playa. It was said his brother confessed before he killed himself, confessed to killing Bison and Bison's girl and stealing the yacht.
Well all I have heard is the same exact rumor they have in this story,he was killed by his bother. And his body was dumped in the ocean but never recovered. They said that his bother owed some strange people money. And he was either looking to lawnder money from Dele. Or take over Dele ID. I dont think their is any official reports on what exactly happen to Dele. But Real Sports & 20/20 both did imdepth coverage of this story a few years ago. So the best I could tell you is to see if those shows still have any info about the case on their websites. Or try to see if you can find old video tape of their coverage. Or better yet, I would try find out if Out Side the lines(the Espn show) ever did a story on the case. I dont remember them ever talking about it. But this seems like something they would cover on that show. And their coverage on these type of situations always have the most depth.
Oh. So his bro killed Bison and his girl first? Then confessed before he committed suicide? That sucks. But I wonder what made him walk away from that contract. I haven't followed his career much after he left the Bulls but when he was with the Bulls, I remember him being a spark off the bench. I can still remember the facial dunk that he did in the Finals. I never knew that he was a weird one though. OT: Tight sig Dre.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post"> Bison Dele's girlfriend, Serena Karlan, was knocked to the deck and killed instantly while breaking up a fight between Dele and his brother, Miles Dabord, as the three and a ship's captain sailed near Tahiti in early July. That's the story Erica Wiese, Dabord's former girlfriend, told ESPN The Magazine's Tim Keown and the Los Angeles Times, based on her conversations with Dabord. The stories are in the Oct. 14 issue of ESPN The Magazine and Thursday's Los Angeles Times. Dele then killed the captain, Bertrand Saldo, with a wrench, because Saldo wanted to report Karlan's death to authorities. As the fight continued, Dabord killed Dele in self-defense, using Dele's own handgun. And Dabord weighted the bodies and dumped them overboard from the Hakuna Matata, Dele's boat.</div> http://espn.go.com/nba/news/2002/1003/1440688.html
Thanks for the link. Although I don't know who to believe. I mean, his brother did have his credit cards and all those stuffs and he threw them to the ocean (maybe trying to cover it up). Did this go to court?
No...he killed himself after telling his mother that he'd rather die than go to jail (at least to my recollection, that's what happened)
it's true it was on espn for a whole week. It's crazy though, he was good player a bit like rodman i think
Oh ok. Thanks for the info guys. I loved him as a player. I didn't know he was weird. It's sad that this happened though. Tsk tsk. Some things that guys would do for money...
Unfortunately, He's deceased. There are always going to be conspiracy theories that say that he's really still out there under an assumed name or something, happy to be out of the spot light. IMO, He's dead. The fact that they haven't recovered the body doesn't discount the likelyhood that the mans dead. The ocean is a vast area and if you'll excuse the analogy, it's like finding a needle in a hay stack.
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">IMO, that's the worst death for me. Wherein no one will find your body.</div> Certainly something to think about. However, IMO, this case has something much worse: The fact that his own brother was the one who supposedly killed him. To me, that's far worse. I would rather my family not have to see what my own flesh and blood did to me, all over a woman or some greenbacks.
What I heard is basically what everyone else is saying, but why did he change his name from Brian Williams to Bison Dele? I heard once he changed it because of his Indian heritage? Is that true?
<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">I heard once he changed it because of his Indian heritage? Is that true?</div> Not sure, but you can bet it's either that or religion related.
i remember reading that in ESPN the magazine probably 1/2 a year ago, it was really sad reading it that someone would decide to kill themselves like that so suddenly and that he's now in a place that no one can find him.
^^ Sorry I don't have anything new to add, but I just wanted to say NICE SIG! Please drop by the Celtics forum sometime!
