The Knicks went through a series of changes once Isiah Thomas took control of the team. One of his biggest acquisitions was Stephon Marbury. Although Marbury is a great player, should the Knicks make him their franchise player and build around him. And if not Marbury than who?

I like Marbury but i don't think he is a franchise player nor is he going to bring the Knick a championship. He is a great individual player but he doesn't make his teammates better like Garnett or Duncan can.

This is Marbury's fourth team and you gotta wonder how good of a player he really is considering teams are readily willing to trade him or let him go.

The Knicks should just blow up their roster and just start over developing some young talent through the draft. Their roster is full of holes right now (undersized) that can't be fixed by trades just because the last GM did such a bad job of evaluating talent

I don’t like the fact that Stephon Marbury would be considered their franchise player. Like Eclipse pointed out, he’s a great individual player, but doesn’t make his teammates better. His number can be deceiving, 20 Points and 8 Assists. Looks good, but doesn’t get him any wins. He get those good for nothing type of wins, he has also yet to make it out of the second round in the Playoff’s. Basically, every team he’s been on hasn’t got much success, and I don’t see thing being any different with the Knicks.

Instead, Isiah Thomas should go after Tracy McGrady or Kobe Bryant. It’s self-explanatory on what they’re capable of doing. So bringing them to the Knicks would give the Knicks a bright future.

Stephon Marbury is a great player but the knicks should build around a big man, with potential like Mike Sweetney. Yes i know you guys think im a retard saying Mike Sweetney the 6'8" overwieght Hoya but he can play minutes and he makes good use of them. Stephon would be a good scoring option, even a 1st scoring option in this case but he wouldnt fit the role of the franchise player.

Sweetney could be the next Brand, if he gets lot less fat and more bulk lol. He doesn't have to be thin, because him being thin wouldn't be good but he needs to be bulk not fat so he has the stamina to play heavy minutes, and of course he still needs to work on his game but yea.

Hmm, i guess he could be. Maybe they could try to trade up in the draft or something, since in my opinion this is a pretty deep draft. On the note of marbury i guess i have to agree with all the others posts and thats all.

Marbury isn't our franchise player. The Knicks need a big young player too big around. Mike Sweetney definately is not the answer. He will be a good player, but not a player you build a team around. Next year, say the Knicks get a Rasheed Wallace or someone, Mike Sweetney being the franchise player goes down the drain.

I doubt the Knicks get Kobe Bryant. He is a Laker, no question in my mind. But Tracy McGrady would be a great player to bring in. I wouldn't mind shipping out any of these guys, Allan Houston, Tim Thomas, Kurt Thomas, or anyone they wanted.

He might as well be our franchise player right now. Unless Thomas has a plan in mind we need to improve our team cohesiveness and overall focus. Marbury needs a #2 and a #3 guy and that would be cheaper than signing some overpriced freeagent for a "quick fix." Though Rasheed at the MLE would be a great deal for us. We still need a shooter if Houston doesn't recover.

As of right now Marbury is our franchise player. I don't expect to see anyone other than Marbury as our franchise player for at least this coming season. I'm a subscriber to the theory that we'll land Rasheed Wallace this summer and he'll be the big acquistion. I guess there's an outside chance we could get Kobe but I'm not sure getting mixed up in his troubles right now is worth it. Too bad Phoenix now owns almost if not all of our entire draft.

    Yes...
We should try and make Mike Sweetney our franchise player...
He is really improving and i see him averaging about 10 points 10 rebounds next season...
Mike Sweetney really has potential and isnt used to his fullest...
He is becoming a great player and he should get the ball more....
He's coming off the bench where he is productive but i would like to see what he does when he's a starter...

Currently our franchise player is marbury and he will be the franchise player for a couple more years the knicks should look into getting a big man but they have no cap room we couldnt sign zo or the candy man olawakani last off season cause all we had was the minimum excemption to offer them if the bobcats take houston we will have a big cap room and be able to sign a quality big man
