Melvin Ely has had some troubles as a starter, but even without that he's more of a PF than C. I hope this Brand deal doesn't go down, I don't want to have to start watching the Sonics to see him play.
Also we might be leaving Ely unprotected in the expansion draft so that the Bobcats can pick him up.

    C - Vitaly
    PF - Shareef
    SF - Rashard-Radman
    SG - Flip
    PG - Luke Ridnour/ Barry

Sign Adonal Foyle, but the team would have too many centers, also sign Lindsey Hunter for defense.

I'm liking your lineup SS, but I'm going to dream a little more and say we keep Rashard.

    C- Chandler
    PF- Brand
    SF- Shard
    SG- Flip
    PG- Barry

C- Foyle/Potapenko, Foyle is great at defense and is plenty smart in basketball mentality.
PF- I'd love to have Brand, he seems more available, seeing as K-Mart would want Max Contract. So either or, too bad can't have both.
SF- K-Mart, if possible. I think Brand would want to be on a winning team even if he did get just a bit less.
SG- Flip and Allen. Simply because.
PG- Barry, better than Daniels as a starter, he's a good shooter and onlooker of the court. Pretty balanced too.

It's sad to see Allen absent from all of those lists.

    C - Potapenko/ Foyle
    PF - Shareef/ Collison/ Evans
    SF - Rashard/ Radman
    SG - Flip/ Barry/ Daniels
    PG - Ridnour/ Daniels/ Barry

The reason for Allen being absent is because many believe that the Sonics could deal him for a good post player, i.e. Elton Brand. To add a guy like Brand and keep Allen on the team is unrealistic.

im surprised you all like Potapenko in your lineups :[

I'm a washingtonian myself and probably saw 90% of the Sonics' games this season.. I absolutely HATE Potapenko. Same deal with James and Booth.. The guy is just too soft, has an awkward (and easily blocked) shot, and relaly doesnt provide a post presence on offense or defense ..

Fair enough, although you have to remember he basically played as the only inside presence we had all season at both ends.

I don't mind Pot in the frontcourt as long as he has another guy who can rebound and score/defend down low with him. He can shoot the open 12 footer and he provides a body, but no one's ever going to mistake him for anything but a complimentary role player.

yeah exactly.. the fact that we had to have someone like him as a center is what made it so frustrating for me. We dont really need ANOTHER guy who can shoot the open 12-footer (given that's probably the one thing everyone ELSE on the sonics can do--minus the other centers of course).. I really really hate how he isnt a strong finisher. If I had a dollar every time he missed a point-blank layup because he couldnt get his fat @$$ up to dunk it..

I think he's too soft/his game isnt right for the center position.. and he wont be able to do anything at the PF slot either :[ He basically plays a brand of basketball that has no chance of success in the NBA.. And lord he moves slow.

I'd much rather have someone forcefeed James and somehow turn him into a player, but that's wishful thinking I guess. Booth would be a decent backup imo, but not for the kind of money he's being paid, and not on a team where everyone else is a jump shooter..

Well if Jack Sikma can't teach him how to be a hard working, effective center, I doubt anyone can [IMG]

In all seriousness, I was gutted when james decided not to opt out of his contract after flirting with doing so. Good on Nate for not playing him undeserved minutes, I don't like his work ethic and I don't like his attitude.

At least Booth doesn't act like he deserves his minutes and paycheck.

    Location:
    Keystone State
    Jerome James Haters

Everyone is quick to bash Jerome James but need I remind everyone that of all of our centers, Jerome still is the most dominant when he is on his game. He is capable of being the most physical and having the biggest interior presence than anyone the sonics can put on the floor at the five. Vitaly is the most consistent but he lacks the height, footwork, and strength to command double teams in the post. He is also a liability on the defensive end (although he gives his best effort)Calvin Booth can't post up and is an inconsistent 10 foot shooter. Jerome is wildly inconsistent, but when he is healthy and plays w/ desire (which I understand is few and far between) he is an upper tier center in the league. His strength, improved footwork, and ability to block shots (although he hasn't come close to his efforts while at FAMU) are all assets that the Sonics should showcase. The playoffs in 2002 showed what he is capable of and I think that in his late 20's he is x-factor to the Sonics success this upcoming season. He is lazy and at times selfish but he's still over 7 feet with good skills and 5 million dollars on the Sonics payroll. We should give him another (extended) chance to earn his keep.

yeah i feel the same way, really.

a motivated James is what the Sonics really need, not soft players like Booth and Vitaly.. it's just so disappointing that he is content with spending his NBA years on the bench.

The Sonics have given him plenty of chances, and he's taken none. Sure, he's good about once every month, but there has been no indication that he's suddenly going to start working hard any time in the future.

    Yup [IMG]

and for the sake of me chiming in, my lineup would go something like:

C Dampier (I can dream.. I can dream.)
    PF Collison
    SF Lewis
SG Allen (Murray off the bench)
PG Daniels (assuming Barry wont be around)
